Showalter edges Gardenhire for Manager of The Year

From the Seats, November 11, 2004

MINNEAPOLIS - Ron Gardhenhire was robbed this year, one could say that he has been robbed the past three years of the Manager of the Year Award. Buck Showalter received 14 votes to make Gardenhire 10 points shy of Showalter.

The Rangers did have a big surprise year where the team stayed in playoff contention the whole season. But they didn't win the division, they came up short.

In 2002 the Twins went from being contracted in the off season to beating the A's in the ALDS to advance to the ALCS where they lost to the Angles. I think Gardhenhire was deserving at that time, but Mike Scioscia did have a pretty good year and what he did with the Angles could justify him getting the award than.

I think Tony Pena wasn't a bad choice last year, the Royals were not supposed to do what they did. The Twins though did have a pretty impressive run in the second half that I don't think got the attention it should have.

No manager has ever won the division the first three years they were a manager, never before, and he still doesn't get it.

Taking Gardenhire out of the picture I still don't think that Showalter was the best choice, there were other AL Managers that might have been more deserving.

If the Twins can manage to win the division in 2005, there should be no question who the manager of the year should be, if nothing else he has gotten robbed the past three.

Cy Young announced Thursday

The AL Cy Young award will be announced Thursday. It is said that Johan Santana is a favorite in winning the Cy Young as he has dominated the entire second half of the season. Schilling is the only pitcher close to Santana and the only category he is ahead of Santana is wins by 1 at 21.
