Santana, Gardenhire Receive Awards

From the Seats, October 27, 2004

MINNEAPOLIS - On Tuesday two members of the Minnesota Twins were honored by The Sporting News Magazine. Ron Gardenhire was named the American League's Co-Managers of the year and Johan Santana was named the American League Pitcher of the Year.

Ron Gardenhire shares the AL Manager of hte Year with the Rangers Buck Showalter. I have to say, its about time! Gardenhire has lead the Twins to 3 consecutive Central Division Championships, all in his first three years of managing. Something that has never been done before. There should be no talk about the Central being a weak division, Gardy has had his share of troubles to get through with injuries.

Johan Santana, receiving one of many awards from the 2004 season. He was the first pitcher to be named AL Pitcher of the Month for three consecutive months (July, August, and September) since Pedro Martinez did it in 1999.

Johan should be in line to win the Cy Young award that will be announced after the playoffs are finished some time.

Red Sox all business, take 3-0 lead

ST. LOUIS - The Red Sox had their first error free game of the World Series, Pedro Martinez shined and pitched the type of game the Red Sox needed from him.

The two most unlikely players, Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz came up with some big defensive plays. Ramirez threw out the tying run in the first inning and than David Ortiz made a play to get Suppan to far off third on a play he should have scored on. Momentum shifters? You betcha they are!

It could be said that those two plays were plays that lost the game for the Cardinals. I wouldn't go that route, the Red Sox out pitched and out hit the Cardinals in game 3.
