Red Sox make history! Advance to World Series
From the Seats, October 21, 2004
NEW YORK - David Ortiz homers in the first after Johnny Damon is thrown out at home. The Red Sox would never look back. Damon later hit a grand slam and than a two run home run.
With that, on their way to a 10-3 win the Red Sox make history. They were down 0-3 to the Yankees facing elimination in game 4, 5, 6 and 7, needing to win all of them to stay alive and they did. No team has ever come back from being down 0-3 to force a game 7. The Red Sox did.
Than they went on to win game 7 to advance to the World Series, their first visit since 1986. I believe that 1986 World Series was the series against the Mets where the famous game 6 was blown by the ball that went between Bill Buckner's legs. This time they will have former Twin, one that still remains a favorite among Twin fans, Doug Mientkiewicz at first. He was called "the human vacuum" on Fox during the game.
David Ortiz is the MVP of the ALCS. He won two of the biggest games for the Red Sox and got them off to the right start in game 7.
It was pretty cool for the Twins to clinch the Central Division in Chicago this year and watch the Twins celebrate on the rivals field in front of their crowd. Not so much to show them up, not to make them feel bad. But it does give it that special feel, where if you cant do it at home, than do it in the place of a rival team. I can only imagine how it is for Red Sox fans and players to win game 7 of the ALCS to advance to the World Series at Yankee Stadium.
Who will they face?
Cardinals force NLCS Game 7
ST. LOUIS - Jim Edmonds hit a two run home run in the bottom of the 12th to force a game 7 in the NLCS. This series has been shadowed by the Yankees - Red Sox series with how it has been televised on Fox. But this series has been pretty darn good itself. All eyes in the baseball world will be on Roger Clemens and Jeff Suppan Thursday in game 7. Who will face the Red Sox?
