Twins split on Tuesday; Rincon; Yankees and Royals

From the Seats, May 04, 2005

MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Twins dropped the series opener on Tuesday to the Cleveland Indians 4-2. But in Hennepin County they came away with a victory in a 4 game series to get a stadium built.

Hennepin County voted 4-3 in favor of the stadium, which means it is sent to legislature where they will vote on it. If it passes there it will be sent to the Governors office, if he signs it then it comes back to Hennepin County where they vote again. Twins need a sweep here, not a series win.

In the 4-2 loss to Cleveland Joe Mays gave up all 4 runs in the first two innings. Three of the runs were on home runs. It is always hard to come from behind but Mays did appear to be much better off. As he was able to get out of a lot of jams that could have been a disaster.

The Twins were not able to muster a comeback against Westbrook, who has been a victim of run support this year. And against the best bullpen in the majors they had no such luck.

With the White Sox playing well the Twins can not let any more games get away from them this series.

Juan Rincon

Juan Rincon, who has failed a drug test made a statement today. It was a pretty lame one so I wont even bother doing a copy and paste. Believe what you want, but I now believe he took steroids until it is proved he did not. I say we need to move on and he nor any other Twin can ever do this again.

Yankees and Royals

The New York Yankees are off to an 11-16 record and 6.5 games behind the Baltimore Orioles. Pitching has been just horrible most of the season as they have lost to teams in their division. The Devil Rays have done their fair share of damage to the Yankees.

Can they come back? I don’t think they will come back to win the division or even a wild card spot. They will improve but not enough to rise to the top. I know all fans outside of the Bronx are ready to throw a party!

The Royals are off to a 7-19 start, winning only 2 games at home. This team is not that bad and will not continue to play this bad. The White Sox are not as good as their record shows either.

Baseball will work itself out.
