Silva off to solid start, LeCroy delivers From the Seats, April 07, 2005 SEATTLE — Carlos Silva becomes the first Twins pitcher of the young season to get through the first inning without giving up any runs. Silva went about his business for 7 innings making only one mistake to Bret Boone in the second, a home run to left field. In 7 innings Silva got 3 double plays and only had 68 pitches. On Bert Blyleven’s 54th birthday LeCroy had promised a home run. In the 4th inning he does just that after Nick Punto started the inning with a bunt single. With two out and two on LeCroy’s home run to left was all that would be needed in the game. In the 8th inning Justin Morneau was hit in the head by a pitch. Morneau left the field under his own power and went for a CAT scan, reports on KARE 11 news at 10:30 PM were that he was ok and flying back with the team. After that Twins loaded the bases to set up a Jones sac fly. Punto tagged up on a ball hit to Ichiro and dove around the tag of Dan Wilson to make it 4-1. The Twins bullpen continues to be perfect after a harmless inning by Rincon and a 1-2-3 save by Joe Nathan. The Twins bullpen now has 7 perfect innings on the season. The best surprise to me could be the left side of the infield and how well Punto and Castro did in this game. The solid defense by these guys along with the small ball they can play makes me excited for this season!! |
