Mauer and that knee From the Seats, March 10, 2005 FORT MYERS - I will start off and apologize to all, it has been a while since an update. Joe Mauer and his knee is causing him more problems. Supposedly this time around it is just part of what happens after surgery, that soreness and some swelling is normal. This from the Star Tribune: Just keep the Twins and team doctors up to date on how that thing feels. The very worst thing that can happen is that he would hide how it feels and we have Joe Mays all over again. 3-5 The Twins are 3-5 going into Wednesdays game against the Orioles. One has to remember that this is spring training, the games do not count and the whole point is to get the feel of things and see who can do what. The good things are that the pitching, especially starting pitching has been very good, just a few bullpen miss haps. Castro has been far from shining at short, but the Twins have not been burned yet by it either. And Cuddyer and Tiffee have both been solid at third. So far, things are good. |

"It felt great today, waking up," Mauer said. "It's getting better. It's just a matter of getting the rest of the inflammation out." He was sidelined Monday after experiencing soreness and swelling in his left knee the day before. It's the knee in which part of his meniscus was removed last April, limiting him to 35 games and 107 at-bats last season. He's expected to be held out of games for a couple of more days. He has been given anti-inflammatory medication, but no further examinations have been scheduled. Even though doctors told Mauer and the Twins that there would be days this spring like Sunday, Mauer didn't like going through it for the first time. "I was prepared for it, but it was still disappointing to see," he said. "I should be back in there the next couple of days. I want to make sure I ice and do the right things. I should be fine." |
