                                                 SPEAKING OUT

                    “We’re the untouchables,” notes Victoria.

“Being homeless is like being the last  bastion of

the old circus freak show,” observes one woman.

“It’s not cool, now, to stare or poke fun at anyone

else—not for various sexual orientations—not at

those physically or mentally challenged—it’s not

cool or legal” she adds.  “But if you’re homeless,

it’s still okay for people to hold any prejudice

they want.  It’s still socially acceptable to think

the homeless are all a bunch of no good bums!”

“Everybody should have to be homeless at least

for a week,” Jim maintains, “so they can see

                     how it really is.”
