'TWAS ALL HALLOWS EVE or SAM HAIN COMMETH

'Twas All Hallows Eve, and all through the night
Every creature was stirring, every spook, spectre and fright;
The Jack o' Lanterns were all carved with such grace,
Trick or Treaters went from door to door with much haste.

Alone in my house
I sat next to the fire,
Eating from a bowl of candy corn,
And sipping from a cup of cider.

When out on my lawn there came such a fright,
Up from my chair I sprang to see what went bump in the night.
Away to the window I flew like a spirit,
Hoping I could see it, if in fact I did hear it.

The moon glowed eerily on objects below
It seemed to give life to every ominous shadow.
What to my frightened eyes did I find
But eight tiny creatures, of the goblin kind.

And there in the center of them all, with a big vicious grin
I knew in a moment it must be Sam Hain
More vicious then werewolves, his servants they came
He bellowed and chanted, and called them by name.

"Now, BASHER! now, BLUNDER! now, THUNDER and VILE!
On, CREEPY! on CREATURE! on, BRUISER and BILE!
To children's closets, and up on their walls!
Runaway! Runaway! Runaway all!

Autumn leaves rustled at the spectre's feet
The goblins all scattered without missing a beat!
So into the streets the servants all jogged.
Into children's houses, and into the fog!

Sam Hain drifted toward me as if he were a cloud,
The wind was whipping and blowing his shroud!
I made a one-eighty and started to bolt,
But he kicked in my door, and in he did float.

He was dressed all in black, from his top to his base
He looked me in the eyes with a horrid scowl on his face
A long harvest reaper, he held in his fist
In came behind him a great cloud of mist

His head was a large pumpkin,
His body a cloak with nothing beneath.
With fiery embers for eyes,
And razors for teeth.

A stump of a candle melted inside of his face
And the smoke curled and coiled just like fine lace
There he stood, all gnarled and tall, with a tattered black cloak
And a voice that sounded like thunder, each time that he spoke.

He was frightening and scary, a wicked old haunt,
I cried when I saw him, something I did not want.
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Gave me the feeling of great sorrow and dread

He spoke not a word, but I was frightened the same
Was this all real, or was I insane?
And placing his hand on my back
He floated up to the ceiling and through a small crack

He and his goblins back together at last
Away into the night they flew, and flew away fast.
But I heard him exclaim, once he was out of sight

"HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO ALL, AND TO ALL ETERNAL NIGHT!"
