Basic White Cake Recipe
BASIC WHITE CAKE RECIPE
2 � cups of cake flour 1-� cups of sugar 3-� teaspoon of fresh baking powder 1 teaspoon of salt � cup of softened shortening 1 cup of milk 1 teaspoon of vanilla flavoring 4 egg whites Preheat oven to 350 degrees Prepare cake pans, two round, layer cake pans or oblong cake pan by covering the inside of the pan or pans with aluminum foil, shiny-side down, and then lightly spray the aluminum foil with your favorite spray vegetable oil. Blend together all of the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Add the softened shortening, 2/3 of the milk, holding 1/3 of the milk back, and add the vanilla flavoring. Blend these ingredients together for approximately 2-minutes at medium speed with an electric mixer or 6-8 minutes by hand. Add the rest of the milk and the egg whites and blend together an additional 2-3 minutes or until well blended. Pour the cake batter into your prepared cake pans and bake at 350 degrees for approximately 30-35 minutes, 5-minutes longer when using an oblong pan. If you are not sure if your cake is completely cooked through, simply stick a toothpick down into the center of your cake and if the toothpick comes out clean and dry, the cake is done. Note�any flavoring other than vanilla can be used to change the flavor of this basic white cake recipe.
