Jeff Andonuts
Apparently, Jeff was placed in boarding school at a young age. The skills he acquired over the years helped him become a talented mechanic, and he would go on to use those talents in the fight to stop the alien invasion.
Jeff employs his knowledge to produce a variety of tools, including beam-projecting firearms designed to take down extraterrestrials and other powerful enemies. In fanfiction, however, Jeff's roles usually seem to involve more talk than action. He is somewhat less prominent than other characters in dramas, often used during problem-solving conversations and similar moments of exposition. Several Neo-"EarthBound" stories, though, such as EarthBound Omega, 101,
E. Revolution, and EarthBound 202X, tend to find more integral roles for Jeff.
History Remains A Mystery
As it is never exactly clear in "EarthBound" just how, when, and why Jeff ended up in boarding school, certain fanfics have naturally addressed the issue. In "Broken Glass, Redeemed," her entry of The Candle: Stories of Confession, writer PSI322 tells a tale in which, after a long separation, a saddened Jeff eventually puts his resentment aside long enough to pay his mother a visit when he gets the chance. In Any Day Now, Jeff had grown up thinking himself partly responsible for his parents' separation, an issue that took him years to come to terms with. EarthBound: The Horsemen Saga paints Jeff's mother as a school legend whose footsteps he followed in.
In any case, at the end of "EarthBound," it is implied that Jeff and his father will attempt to rebuild their relationship, and likewise, many fanfics set afterwards imply favor for this sentiment.
