Why I never answer my phone:
There was a very good reason I left San Diego, as many San Diegans can attest, it is a special county. Exhibit A, my cell phone. It has a San Diego area code, and living in San Jose, pretty much any call from some one I don’t know in the San Diego area is guaranteed to be a wrong number. One of the things that makes San Diegans special, is that they can’t quite figure out that you dial ‘1’ before the area code. Apparently my prefix, 213, is one of the area codes for L.A.
Basically anyone calling LA from San Diego who forgets to dial ‘1’, has a good chance of calling my number. I don’t mind a wrong number now and then, or the messages for Marcia Guerrera to come have her teeth cleaned that are in my voice mail, but some people, people with fax machines, are just too stubborn and will keep trying back every 15 minutes. I’ve received over 20 wrong numbers, mainly from fax machines, in one morning alone. Sometimes I call them back to help them learn the most useful button when dialing long distance, but I often just get a fax machine that picks up. I’ve just given up and rarely ever turn my ringer on. If you give me a call, messages are the best way to get me to call back.
