Frogwatch USA datasheet, for the Palm OS
Well, here it is, the Frogwatch datasheet for your Palm handheld.
I made this program to give all the Frogwatch volunteer's an easier, more pleasant
experience in the field.
It's a great piece of equipment to take with you.
What's included in this download
Frogwatch.prc (this is the datasheet program)
Beaufort windscale.pdb (This is a PalmOS
.doc file of the windscale chart)
Calling index.pdb (this is a PalmOS .doc
file of the calling index)
Frogwatch protocol.pdb (this is a PalmOS
.doc file of the protocol)
Documentation (the stuff you need to read)
Note: To use .doc files on your Palm computer
you will need a DOC reader such as
CSpotRun, which can be downloaded here: http://www.freewarepalm.com
Before using this program, please read the frogwatch protocol
file
Instructions
So right now you may be asking yourself, how do I use this thing? Actually Ito
quite simple.
When you first launch the program you will be greeted by a splash and navigation
screen.
A screen shot is below.

Main page
If you look above at the screenshot you will notice to the right of the frog
image three buttons.
Volunteer, Field data, and Contacts. Each button will take you to It's appropriate
section, I'll start with the first.
The Volunteer button will bring you to a screen where you can place all your
volunteer information. Such as,
observation number, your location (meaning state of residence), your name, and
an area to hold your registered
sites and their site numbers. Take a look at the screenhot below to see the
screen.

Volunteer screen
Also if you notice in the upper right hand corner, there is a small square icon
with a tiny frog in it. If you click this icon,
it will bring you back to the main page. Likewise if you see this icon on other
screens in the program. The text area where
you can place your site name and # is scrollable, but you can only scroll it
using the Palms hardware scroll buttons located on
the Palm itself. The next button is the field data button, which will inter
bring you to a screen with all the appropriate entry fields.
See the screenshot below.

Field data screen
If you look at the above image you will notice the screen has all the same entry
fields as the paper datasheet like;
date, site#, start time, end time, air temperature, wind speed, precipitation,
your 48 hour precipitation, and your 48 hour temperature.
You will also notice four downward pointing arrows. These are popup menus which
contain a list of the correct data entry information for each particular field.
So you just simply select according to your observation. The image below shows
an example of a popup menu in use.

At the bottom of the screen you will see a button labeled species list and below
that a graphical navigation bar. I'll explain the navigation bar first then
jump back to the species list. Below is a shot of the navigation bar by itself.

Navigation bar
The first icon (the one that looks like a tiny frog)
will take you back to the main screen.
The two arrow icons allow you to scroll through your new and previous data records.
The icon that looks like a text file is the NEW button. When you tap
this, it will create a new data field record.
The last one is the delete button. Be careful when deleting records, once you
have deleted, it's gone forever!
Now back to the pieces list.
Pieces list screen
Taking a look at the screenshot above will pretty much tell you everything.
But let me explain. The left side of the screen holds a list of 9 individual
fields for you to enter the
species you observe. To the left, there are popup menus next to each entry field.
These popup menus contain
the calling intensity numbers for you to specify.
The back button will bring you back to the data field screen.
If you take a look back at the screenshot of the main screen, you will see one
last button.
This takes you to the contacts screen, on that page is the mailing
address and e-mail address of Frogwatch.
And it also has a credits section.
Well, there it is. You might want to take a look at the program in use by viewing
