We ate some ant, themed snacks. Here are the goodies we made and enjoyed together: Fill , clean, cut, celery stalks with peanut butter. Top with some yummy ants (raisons of course). Each child will use 3 large marshmallows, 8 pretzel sticks and 2 M&M's (or other round candy). Use one pretzel to hold all 3 marshmallows together to form the body. Stick in 6 pretzels for legs (3 on each side). Break the remaining pretzel in half and use for antennae. The M&M's become the eyes. 1, 5oz box of raisins 10oz bag of chocolate chips wax paper (This will make about 20 small anthills) Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave or over a double boiler. Add the raisins and stir quickly. Use a teaspoon to drop "hills" onto wax paper. Cool completely then enjoy! We will read the Aesop fable, "The Ant and the Grasshopper" and turn it into a reader's theatre. We will perform it for our principal! Check back for the script as well as pictures. Present a variety of word problems involving ants. They can be introduced whole class, on cards in groups, or individually. The children use raisins to solve the problems. As a follow up, instruct the children to write and illustrate a math problem. Collect and bind in an "Ant Math" class book. Ant problem Ideas- 3 ants went walking down the stick. 5 more joined them. How many ants in all? 4 little ants found some sugar. 4 more ants came by. How many ants ate the sugar? 6 ants were carrying a cracker. 2 ants went away. How many ants are left?
