Kuznetsova crowned China Open champion China Flag Kuznetsova crowned China Open champion:  Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova's love-affair with the China Open continued this past weekend after she captured her twelfth career singles title by defeating Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) in the women's singles final in Beijing on Sunday evening. Sixth-seeded Kuznetsova, who was playing in her fourth China Open final, quickly took control of her match against the 12th-seeded Pole, dominating play and effectively negating Radwanska's attacking game before wrapping up a comprehensive straight sets 6-2, 6-4 victory over her 20-year-old opponent. Sunday's triumph awarded Kuznetsova her second Beijing crown (the first coming in 2006), her third singles title of the year and US$775,500 in prizemoney. Full Story »

Svetlana moves up to world number 4 Svetlana moves up to world number 4:  Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova has climbed up the WTA Tour singles rankings to return to the Top 5 as world number four after winning the recent $4.5 million China Open premier event. Kuznetsova, who had already qualified as the fifth player in the season-ending Sony Ericsson Championships taking place later this month in Doha, leapfrogged both Elena Dementieva (RUS) and Caroline Wozniacki (DEN) on the singles ladder to move back up into the world's Top 5 in the new rankings released by the WTA Tour on Monday. Svetlana qualifies for Doha Qatar Flag Svetlana qualifies for Doha:  Svetlana Kuznetsova has successfully secured her place at the season-ending Sony Ericsson Championships after pinning down the number five position in the WTA Tour's Race to Doha competition. Kuznetsova cemented her spot following the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo earlier this month despite making a surprise second round exit. Svetlana qualified for Doha behind fellow Russian Dinara Safina (1st), America's Serena Williams (2nd), US Open runner-up Caroline Wozniacki (3rd) and countrywoman Elena Dementieva (4th). The latest Doha qualifiers are 2008 champion Venus Williams (6th) and Belarussian Victoria Azarenka (7th).
