Never one to be upstaged, Europe has always hogged the limelight. While she's petite in stature (the svelte second-smallest continent), she's never shy about taking centre stage in world culture and politics. She stole the opening scenes and launched her career as the Greeks, Romans, Franks and Vikings conquered the countryside.
Like any starlet, she suffered identity crises as crusades and rebellions pitted religious and ethnic factions against each other. She struggled in the early 20th century as her World War series (parts I and II) flopped big-time. But after popes and Puritans, reformers and revolutionaries, and colonies and communists had all played their parts, Europe pulled together for a triumphant comeback. Today, she stars as a flashy dancing queen in the nightclubs of Berlin and as a material girl in the ritzy boutiques of Paris. She plays the reserved, sophisticated matron in Vienna just as well as the fun-loving teenager in Ibiza. Want to meet her up-close and personal? Grab a camera and a backpack and go get her autograph for yourself. |
