| Your Betta's health is very important. There are many things that your betta can catch or may already have that can be harmful and even deadly. Trust me I have found this out the hard way! - Ich - Ich are little parasites that attach to your fish. They look like little grains of salt covering your fishes body and fins. I like to think of them as fish fleas, because they make your fish itchy and want to rub and scratch up against things. If your betta gets ich, which is a high possibility since stress can also cause it, and being shipped and hauled all over the place is very stressful for a little fish. You need to raise the temperature of the bettas water from 82 to 85 degrees. This makes the come off your fish and become free swimming. I highly recommend Aqua-risol for anything. One drop of this and it will begin to kill the ich. - Tail/fin rot - This was harder for me to treat. It doesn't take long to go away, but it takes awhile for your fish to get back their fins. Isn't very hard to spot, if it starts looking like your fishes fins are getting shorter or are falling apart you probably got a case of fin rot. You must put your fish in seperate jars for treatment. And again I recommend Aqua-risol. Melafix works to, but it's a lot easier to overdose or not get the right amount in the jars. I'm just kinda posting this stuff as it happens to me. Who would know better about something then someone who has done went through it? Warning Do not bleach your jars! I also found this out the hard way. Plastic absorbs bleach, I don't know about glass. But just don't use bleach unless you have to. It's very abrasive and even if a little gets left it can still be extremely harmful for your fish. |
