2.6.2 Technique
The 2-6-2 technique is an evangelism tactic that has been tested and proven to be an extremely effective tool in sharing the gospel.
2 Personalized Questions:
Begin by asking a friend, family member, neighbor or stranger two questions:
Spiritual
What are your spiritual beliefs? (About God, heaven, hell, religion, etc...)
Would you mind if I shared my spiritual beliefs with you?
Opinion
What do you think a person has to do to get to heaven?
Would you mind if I shared with you what the Bible says a person has to do?
Heaven
Do you know for sure that you will go to heaven when you die?
If I could tell you in less than two minutes how you could know for sure, would that be good news?
Religion
What's your religious background?
Would you mind if I shared with you how a relationship with God is different from a religion?
Jesus
Who do think Jesus was? (God, man, good, teacher, lunatic, etc...)
May I share with you who I believe He was and why He died on the cross?
6 Penetrating Points:
After asking two questions students then share the six points of the gospel:
God created us to be with Him. (Genesis 1:26- Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness...") God's desire in creating humankind was that we would live in a perfect paradise enjoying perfect fellowship with Him.
Our sin separates us from God. (Genesis 6:5-6-The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain.) The wrong things that we have done (sins) have placed a barrier between humankind and our Creator.
Sin cannot be removed by good deeds. (Titus 3:5-He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit) There is nothing we can do through our own efforts that can restore our broken relationship with God.
Paying the price for sin, Jesus died and rose again. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4- For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures) Jesus came to earth and lived a perfect life, died a horrible death, and rose from the grave to pay the price for all of the sins of humankind.
Everyone who trusts in Him alone has eternal life. (John 6:47- I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life.) By simply placing our trust in Jesus death and resurrection as our only hope of salvation, we receive the free gift of salvation.
Life thats eternal means we will be with Jesus forever in heaven. (Revelation 22:5-There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.) Those who have placed their trust in Christ have forgiveness of sins and a restored relationship with God forever.
2 Penetrating Closers:
After sharing the six points then ask the final two questions:
Does that make sense? Make absolute certain that the person completely understands the gospel. If he/she doesn't, simply go back over the six points and clarify.
Will you trust in Jesus right now as your only hope of going to heaven?
If they say yes, then they have just become a believer. Remember that praying a prayer is not what saves a person- but if he/she desires to express his/her trust in Christ through a prayer, you should.
Here's a prayer:
"Dear Father, I know that I'm a sinner.  I realize that my good deeds will never get me into heaven.  Right now I believe that Jesus died in my place for my sins.  I trust in Him alone to forgive me for all of my sins.  Thank you for your free gift of eternal life."
