How To Effect Change
I. The goal of Biblical counseling is CHANGE.
We must change wrong thinking to Biblical thinking.
II. "Stop that!!" is not a lasting solution.
Why? - We drift back into the problem.
III. Habitual, sinful patterns are stubborn to change.
IV.Habits are
First - comfortable
Second - automatic
Third - unconscious
V. A child of God must discipline themselves to Godliness.
VI. If you practice Godly habits, they will become part of you. (Hebrews 5:13,14)
VII. Elements involved in Biblical change.
A. Becoming aware of the practice (pattern) that must be changed.
B. Discovering the Biblical alternative.
C. Structuring the whole situation for change.
D. Breaking links in the situation for change.
E. Getting help from spiritual people.
F. Stressing the whole relationship to Christ.
G. Practicing the new pattern.
VIII. Ephesians 4:17-32 (key: v.23)
IX. Change is a two factored process:
A. STOP what is bad.
B. START what is good.
