Character Creation
Creativity is the heart of any adventure. Unfortunately, even that has its limits. Any game needs guidelines. The following are the restrictions for characters playing in Grovedale. If something's not listed, consider it allowed.
Important: In the following, the term Restricted means that I won't allow it without a good explanation for why your character has X. Banned means that I won't allow it. Period.
Step 1: Concept
Kith Restrictions:
I am only allowing one sidhe for every four players. No exceptions. Sidhe are
supposed to be uncommon, and besides, they really aren't as great as people
seem to think they are. All sidhe must have Title and a House.
The following kiths are restricted: Nunnehi, Inanimae, Denizens
The following kiths are banned: Thallian, Hsien
FAN-KITHS: Fan-created kiths will be allowed, provided they follow all rules
for fan submissions (see below), and a link to the information on the kith is
given.
House Restrictions:
Commoners with titles and story reasons can choose a House. The following houses
are restricted: Aesir, Beaumayn, Daireann, Leanhaun, Varich
House Balor is banned, as are any fan-created houses. Members of House Scathach
must follow the revised Birthrights and Frailties from the Book of Lost Houses
(if you don't have it, ask me for the details)
Seeming Restriction: Absolutely, positively, no childlings. Sorry.
Step 2: Attributes
No Attributes at 5, not counting bonuses due to Birthrights.
Step 3: Abilities
I am adding the Skill Technology (the ability to fix and build technological devices) and the Knowledge Academics (knowledge of social sciences, history, english, etc.). Bear that in mind. No Abilities over 3 with ability points, none over 4 with freebies.
Step 4: Backgrounds
Many backgrounds are restricted or banned past a certain level.
Chimeric Companion: Restricted past 3, Holdings: Restricted at 1 & Banned
past 1, Resources: Restricted past 3, Title: Banned past 2, Treasure: Restricted
past 3, Retinue: Restricted past 2. Talk to me before taking any sourcebook
backgrounds, so that I can decide on limits.
I am allowing the following Backgrounds from The Enchanted (and other major
core books) at certain levels:
Fame up to 2, Influence up to 2, Fith-fath up to 3
Step 5: Arts and Realms
The following Arts are restricted, unless your character is of the kith that
created them (see brackets): Aphrodisia (mers), Cryos(mers), Stormcraft (mers),
Spirit-Link (nunnehi), Oneiromancy (denizens), Discord (denizens)
The following Arts are banned unless your character is of the appropriate type:
Soverign (nobles), Autumn Way (denizens), Infusion (nockers). Contempt and Delusion
are just plain banned. Fan Arts are allowed (as per fan rules), as are the Alternate
Arts from this website. Arts are restricted past 3, and banned past 4. Realms
are banned past 4.
Step 6: Finishing Touches
All characters start with 3 Willpower, rather than the normal amount for their Seeming. Glamour is banned past 7. Willpower is banned past 8. Grumps receive 20 freebies, instead of the normal 15(as per the optional rules in Fool's Luck).
FAN KITHS, ARTS, TREASURES, ETC - I accept fan creations for this game, as long as they follow the following guidelines:
1) Play Balance - If the piece in question is not balanced, I will not allow
it. Compare all powers to others of the same degree, and make sure that it's
not either too powerful (more common) or too weak (still fairly common). If
I feel that it can be fixed, I will offer suggestions to that effect.
2) Setting Balance - The piece in question has to fit into the setting I've
established, which is approximately the same as the canon setting. No kith that
controls the keys to the Formorians, for example. If the creation does not fit
into my setting, I reserve the right to say no
3) Full Information - I need to know exactly what the creation can do. If I
don't receive the complete rules, I will assume that what I have ARE the complete
rules, and that will be that.
Finally, I reserve the right to tinker with a power that looks balanced, but
winds up being slightly out of balance - even one from this site. Such changes
should be relatively minor.
