Flags

Friland

The current Frilandic flag dates from the 15th century and is derived from the banner of king Þeudrik, who united all shires under this flag.

State flag
The official flag of Friland: two horizontal bands of which the upper one is dark blue and the lower one is white. The blue symbolises the Atlantic Ocean and the white the snowy Frilandic archipelago. The Eihwaz rune in the middle symbolises the world tree, whose high branches and deep roots form a connection between heaven and earth.

Civil flag
The civil flag is a simplified version of the official flag, which lacks a coat of arms or other symbolism. The civil flag of Friland also serves as civil ensign.

War flag
The war flag is used by the army of a country, for example on navy vessels and military bases. On the Frilandic war flag the Eihwaz rune is replaced by a valknut, the symbol of the war god Wodan.

Southern Domain
The flag of the Southern Domain (Sunþwaldskap), an overseas territory. The star represents the Southern Cross.

Tern Islands
The flag of the Tern Islands (Þernhulman), belonging to the Southern Domain but with its own flag. The zigzag pattern symbolizes the Sagfergun (Saw Mountains) and the black represents the basalt rock found on the islands.

Frilandic Tagaloa
The flag of Frilandic Tagaloa (Frilandisk-Dagalau), an overseas territory. The stars together form the Southern Cross

Wulfmark
The flag of Wulfmark, an overseas territory. With two paw prints of the Baffinwolf, after which the area is named.

Hiveria

The original Hiverian flag was plain white with two golden lions under eachother. An alternative for this was a blue flag with a lily leaf and an ermine cross, which were derived from the coat of arms of Guy le Breton. Both flags were sometimes provided with a purple ribbon, which symbolized the wealth of the Kingdom of Hiveria. Because of their connection to the Hiverian royal house, both flags were replaced with the current flag after the revolution of 1794, in which only the color of the purple ribbon and the white were preserved.

State flag
The purple-white chequered flag symbolizes a cross, which emphasises the pious nature of Hiveria. The Hiverian state flag also serves as the civil flag.

Civil ensign
A civil ensign, also known as a trade flag, is used by merchant ships to distinguish themselves from military vessels. The Hiverian civil ensign is the same as the state flag but then with a diamond shape in the middle that is divided into four triangles, of which the purple-white colours are opposite to the background.

War flag
The Hiverian war flag consists of a purple and a white field, which are divided by a diagonal line that runs from the bottom left to the upper right. On the purple field four arrows form a cross together.

Esrayette
The flag of Esrayette, an overseas territory.
