Tourism

The Frilandic bureau of tourism is the Gastanhelp ("Guest help"). This organisation has establishments in almost every city and can be recognised by the orange sign. Tourists can go here with any questions they have. In every establishment there are also people present who can speak English, French and German. For other languages a translator can be arranged.
Things to remember when visiting Friland:

  • Time zone: Friland lies in the same time zone as Great Britain and Ireland (UTC/GMT). Therefore, keep in mind that you adjust your watch.
  • Visa: for a visit to Friland you need a visa, be sure to request this in advance. Besides the visa you also need to bring your passport of course.
  • Import of goods: importing certain goods is illegal of a permit is needed for them, please contact Customs about this.
  • Pets: certain pets like dogs and cats are allowed to be brought into the country after a short check, provided that they meet certain conditions. This does not apply to other animals and in many cases a period of quarantine will be imposed. Please contact Customs about this.
  • Money change: this can mainly be done at the bank or the post office.
  • Electricity grid: the mains voltage in Friland is 220-240V/50Hz. Just like in Western Europe you need two-pinned plugs of Type C CEE 7/16, Type C CEE 7-17 or Type E & F hybrid CEE 7/7 for the socket outlets.
  • Emergency number: the emergency number is 112, just like in the rest of Europe.
  • Language: in Friland the Frilandic language is almost exclusively spoken. A majority of the population does understand English though. French and German will often be usable as well.
  • Wordlist: for a number of standard sentences in Frilandic you can consult our wordlist.
