Passports

Contents
The Frilandic passport (žeudsblad) contains the following details:

  • First and last name of the holder
  • Photo
  • Gender
  • Height
  • Date and place of birth
  • Signature
  • Personal number
  • Place, date and name of issuing department
  • Passport number
  • Period of validity

The passport also contains authenticity marks to counter forgery, like special paper and watermarks. It also has a microchip, on which all previously mentioned details are stored. Besides that a facial scan and fingerprints can also be added to the chip, but this isn't standard because it conflicts with the Frilandic privacy laws. However, for travelling to certain countries this information is required, so at the request of the passport holder this information can (temporarily) be added to the chip.
The passport is valid for 5 years and written in Frilandic, English, German and French.

    Identification
In Friland, citizens aged 12 and over are required to be able to show a valid identity document, but the police can only ask for this when it has a valid reason. Possession of a passport isn't mandatory, but having an ID-card is. For that reason the ID-card is free of charge. However, travelling abroad can only be done with a passport.

    Obtaining a passport
Passports and other official documents can be requested at the municipality or embassy/consulate. Persons of whom both biological parents are Frilandic, automatically receive the Frilandic nationality and the right to a Frilandic passport, no matter where they were born. When one or both parents is not a Frilander, this person first has to obtain the Frilandic nationality, whether this person was born in Friland or not.
In case of marriage with a Frilander the Frilandic nationality is also not automatically obtained, but has to be requested (when desired). However, because of the very strict admission requirements many Frilanders choose to adopt the nationality and homeland of their partner.
Possession of multiple nationalities and their accompanying passports is allowed in Friland.
