Units of measurement



Since 1875 the metric system is used in Friland. The old units of measurement are still in unofficial use, but usually only for estimations and not for exact measurements. Examples of traditional longitudinal measurements are:

  • alin (ell): length of the ulna.
  • žum (thumb): length of the upper phalanx of the thumb.
  • fot (foot): length of the foot.
  • Wodansspan (Wodans span): distance between the stretched thumb and index finger.
