Health care

Public health
Friland is a welfare state that strives for help and facilities for everybody. There are also obligatory basic insurances to prevent people from getting financial trouble when they fall ill.
To keep the population as healthy as possible there are vaccinations, periodic medical examinations and campaigns about exercise, smoking, drugs, bad nutrition and excessive alcohol consumption. Commercials for tobacco, alcohol and other unhealthy products are subject to strict regulation. The government monitors the availability and affordability of the most effective medicines.

Mental health care
Mental health is considered just as important as physical health. All schools, businesses, and other institutions are therefore required to appoint a (external) confidential counselor. General practitioners and therapists are also trained to recognize mental health issues early, so that people receive help before their symptoms escalate.

Ethics
In Friland the medical wellbeing of people is deemed higher than ethical objections; cloning and genetic manipulation are allowed for scientific research, as long as it benefits public health. Abortion and euthanasia are also allowed, albeit under strict conditions.

Alternative medicine
Many insurance companies compensate alternative medicine. Not only homeopathy, acupuncture, chiropractic and reiki have many supporters, but also the treatments that originate from the Ferna Sed religion. However, regular medicine is the most common because the average Frilander strongly believes in everything that can be scientifically demonstrated.
