The original stalker/slasher teen film, "Halloween" was released in 1978 and followed by numerous sequels.  It is the definative horror series for many fans, and I personally like it better than the Nightmare on Elm Street an Friday the 13th series, which rely more on shock value than good story-telling.
Halloween (1978)
Directed by: John Carpenter
Starring: Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasence, Nick Castle.
Young Michael Myers killed his sister on Halloween and was sentenced to a mental assylum under the superivision of Dr. Loomis (Pleasence).  Of course, Myers escapes and goes on a killing spree in his home town.
Jamie Lee Curtis plays a babysitter who just happens to be the target victim of Myers.  She's all alone with the kids, it's Halloween, and there's a stranger lurking around her home wearing a strange white mask.

News Flash: Another Halloween movie is rumored to be in the making.  It's supposed to called "Halloween: Assylum" and continues the adventures of Michael Myers, who is on death row.
The mask Myers used was really a William Shatner mask spray-painted white.
Nick Castle played the masked Michael Myers.  Tony Moran played Michael for a brief second when he gets his masked ripped off.
Jamie Lee Curtis was the daughter of Janet Leigh, of Psycho fame.  There are a few tributes to Psycho in this film; watch for them.
