A Day on Mt. Evans
It is possible to drive to the top of one of Colorado's 52 "14ers".  By driving to Idaho Springs and taking the Mt. Evans road (closed in the Winter) you can drive to the top of this 14,250 foot mountain.  Besides scenery there are hikes, wild life, and a nature center.  Mt. Evans summit is a 20 mile drive from Idaho Springs.
Echo Lake has a pathway around the lake and also has a couple trail heads for longer hikes.
The road to the summit of Mt. Evans is the highest in North America.

View from the trail to Chicago Lakes.  This view is just a few hundred feet from Echo Lake.
At the top of Mt. Evans the view to the south is Abyss Lake and Mt. Bierstadt.

This photo of a herd of Mountain Goats was taken from the ridge on the west side of Summit Lake.
There are many Mountain Goats on Mt. Evans.  A sighting is almost assured.
