Daisy Chains

Disclaimer: Ok, you all know that I don’t own them. Now onto the good stuff…

Monica sighed as she heard a scream from baby Matthew. She pushed Chandler away, ignoring his groans about being stopped in mid-kiss.

"Your son wants you," she told him. A shout from Daisy added to the sound.

"So does your daughter," Chandler replied. The two of them left Monica’s bedroom and entered the little nursery, sad that their ‘moment’ had been cut short.

"Mama, Mama!" cried Daisy, on seeing Monica.

"Hey, Daisy," Monica smiled. Her little daughter could always bring a smile to her face. Maybe one day, Chandler would feel like that about Matthew.

"Out." Daisy couldn’t say many words, but so far, she had mastered ‘Mama’, ‘up’, ‘down’, ‘out’ and ‘Tanda’, which Monica was convinced meant Chandler.

Monica obeyed the little girl, and looked sadly at Chandler. He was staring blankly at the baby in the cot, as if he had no idea how to pick him up. She knew that that couldn’t be true – he had held Matthew lots of times.

"Just pick him up," she snapped, finally, before she could help herself. He looked at her with an statement of hurt on his face, and she melted. "Sorry, I – I just…"

"Don’t worry," he sighed. "I need to pick him up, I suppose." He paused, and reached into the crib. "Hey, there, baby." Matthew’s cries changed to gurgles as he recognised his father. Chandler picked the baby up, and smiled. "Y’know, this isn’t so bad."

"See? You’ll cope fine," Monica told him. "I felt just like that, honey, but you were there, and we can get through this together—" She paused, seeing his stricken face. "I’m sorry, I didn’t mean…"

"I-I have to go now," Chandler said, shifting the baby to his other arm. "I – we made a mistake, we were tired, we should forget it…"

"No, Chan—" Too late. He’d left. Monica wanted to call him back, to tell him that she had enjoyed the kisses, to tell him – anything that would make him stay. She knew now that she was hopelessly in love with him. She sank to the floor, Daisy in her arms.

"Mama? Tanda?" asked Daisy.

"He’s gone, little one," Monica said, tears falling down her cheeks. "Gone."

Outside, Chandler was regretting running off. He wanted to go back in, but Monica had scared him – maybe she had planned for their whole lives, not just that day. He didn’t want to be hurt again, not like Kathy had hurt him.

But – he sighed as Matthew squirmed in his arms – Monica was the woman that he was falling in love with. Monica was the woman that had acted as Matthew’s ‘mother’ for the past few days. She would do most things for Chandler – and maybe she loved him. What was love? He had thought that it was what he felt for Kathy, but when he could get over Kathy in three days, maybe it wasn’t.

As he stood there, he knew what he had to do. He opened the door, and went back in.

"Monica?" The noise cut through the stillness of the apartment. "Monica, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to say that."

"Chandler?" Monica appeared at the door of the nursery, smiling, looking so happy.

"I love you, Monica." He went over to her, put Matthew down on the sofa, and hugged her.

"I love you too, Chandler." She kissed him, hard, not pulling away. They were interrupted by a cough from the door.

"Monica?" asked an incredulous voice. "Chandler?"

"Phoebe!" cried Monica, happily. "And Rachel – oh, and Joey! This is wonderful! Why are you here?"

"Never mind that," Rachel said. "Why are you kissing Chandler? Have you forgotten that he has a pregnant girlfriend?"

"Have I?" Chandler quipped, looking around. He stopped when he noticed the others looking at him. "Kathy left me and my son."

"Dude, you’ve got a son?" asked Joey. "Congratulations, man."

"Oh, let’s see him!" cried Rachel.

Monica picked up the baby, and Chandler spoke. "Matthew Joseph Ross Bing, meet Rachel, Phoebe and Joey."

"His name is Joseph?" Joey asked, his eyes filling.

"Joey, Pheebs, I understand congratulations are in order," Chandler said.

"Yes, tell all," Monica ordered. "Oh, but not yet – Ross and Emily have to be here!"

A little while later, Ross, Emily, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe, Joey, Rachel and the babies were assembled in Monica’s apartment. After telling the gang about her new relationship with Chandler, Monica repeated her request.

"Ok, I’ll start," Phoebe said. "You know when we released ‘My Mother Stuck Her Head in an Oven’, and we got all those bad reviews?" Everyone nodded. "I was really upset, and Joey comforted me with sex."

"Yeah, baby," Joey crowed. Phoebe punched his arm lightly.

"And then two months later, I realised that I hadn’t had a period, and I told Joey and Rachel. Only trouble was, there was this reporter lurking around, and she heard every word I said. Then, people spied on me buying a test, and going to the doctors. I guess it was pretty obvious." She shuddered.

"How awful," Emily sympathised.

"Yes, it was," Phoebe told her. "I was very upset. And you would have been too. So, anyway, the doctor said I was pregnant, and I’m five months gone, and only a teeny bit fat." She stood up, and the gang saw that yes, she was slightly fatter than she had been.

"So, are you getting together?" asked Monica, eagerly.

"No, we’re just friends," Joey replied. "I’m going to be the baby’s dad, obviously, and Phoebe is giving up singing to be a mom."

"I can’t believe all this is happening," Ross said, in a daze. "I mean, Monica and Chandler are together, Phoebe’s having Joey’s baby, it’s all happening."

"Yeah." The gang sat in silence, thinking. Life was different now, and it was always changing. They couldn’t help that, but they could make sure that the changes were good ones. That was a challenge that they could work to, and so far, they were doing just fine.

So, that’s that done. I liked this story, but I don’t think that there was that much I could have done to it. Please review, and I do have some ideas for more fics.
