TOW Monica’s Birthday

Intro: Hi Everyone! This is my first fic that I've put online so please be nice. I know it probably sucks, but oh well. Oh yeah, it's a c&m fic so if you don't like ‘em, don't read this. There's no R&R. All you need to know is Monica and Chandler are married and have been for a year and Mon is 5 months pregnant. I might turn this into a series, but I want to know what everyone thinks.

Scene: CP. The whole gang is there except Monica and Chandler. They're sitting in their usual places.
Phoebe: Hey you guys, you know what I just realized?
Joey: What?
Phoebe: Monica's birthday is tomorrow, and we haven't gotten her anything.
Rachel: (worried) She's gonna kill us.
Joey: She won't remember since she's pregnant.
Ross: What? Joey, people aren't stupid when they're pregnant! If anything, they're smarter. (Sees a confused look on Joey's face)...Never mind. Besides, maybe you haven't gotten her anything, but I have.
Rachel: (to Phoebe quietly) It's probably another dinosaur thing like he got her for the wedding.
Ross: Actually, it is from work, but it's a surprise. And Monica will love it, just like she loved her wedding present.
Joey: Yeah, she liked it so much she gave it to me.
Ross: What!!?
Joey: You know what, I'm gonna go. (Joey gets up to leave, quickly)

~Opening Credits~

Scene: A doctors office. Monica is laying on a table with the jelly on her stomach, Chandler and the doctor are standing next to her, watching their baby on the screen.

Chandler: (happy) Oh my god (not like Janice says it, hehe) That's our baby?
Doctor: Yes, that's your baby. (Pause) Would you like to know the sex yet?
Monica: (looks at Chandler who nods yes) Yes, we would.
Doctor: (looks at screen carefully) Congratulations, it looks like you're having a baby girl.
Chandler: (very happy w/ tears in his eyes) We're having a girl?
Doctor: (nods and wipes the jelly off of Monica's stomach, turns the machine off) I'll be right back. Congratulations, mom & dad. (Leaves and closes the door behind her)

Scene: M&C apartment. Everyone is there, M&C enter, Chandler has his arm around Monica.
Monica/Chandler: Hey!
All: Hey/Hi/etc.
Rachel: How did it go?
Ross: Am I going to have a niece or a nephew?
Monica: It went great. The baby's perfectly normal and... (to chandler) do you want to tell them?
Chandler: We're having a girl!
Phoebe: Yay!
Rachel: Great! Girls are so much fun to shop for. (Monica laughs)
Ross: I'm going to have a niece?
Monica/Chandler: yep.
Ross: This is great you guys! (Hugs Mon)
Joey: (sitting at the table eating a sandwich) If she looks anything like Mon, she's gonna be hot!
Rachel: Joey!
Joey: Sorry guys, (gets up) Congratulations. (Hugs Chandler, then Mon)
Rachel: Come on Mon, we have to go shopping for her!
Monica: Rach, she's not coming for 4 more months and I'm tired!
Rachel: Please???? Just for a little bit?
Monica: Fine. (Turns to Chandler) Is that okay with you honey?
Chandler: Sure, I'll be here if you need me. (Gives her a quick kiss)
Monica: Bye sweetie! (Monica and Rachel turn to leave)
Chandler: Remember, no coffee.
Monica: I know. Bye, I love you.
Chandler: I love you too. (Door closes, Chandler goes to sit down in his chair)
Joey: I gotta go guys. I've got a commercial audition.
Ross: Okay...Wait! What about Days Of Our Lives? You're still working there, right?
Joey: Yeah, but Estelle's getting as much work as she can. You never know when those damn writers are going to kill you off the show.
Ross: Okay, see ya.
(Joey Leaves)
Phoebe: So Chandler, what are you doing for Monica's birthday?
Chandler: I don't know yet. I have a gift for her and everything, but I don't know if I should throw her a party or not. Especially after the last one I gave her.
Ross: Which one was that? (Thinks) Oh, her 30th? (Chandler nods) (Ross laughs)
Phoebe: Okay, well, we could plan a party, all of us, you know. It'll be fun.
Chandler: I guess, but try not to keep the guest list small. She might not be up to it.
Phoebe: Okay! Yay!
Chandler: At least she can't show up drunk to this one.
Phoebe: See? This is going great already!
Chandler: I'll see you guys later. Tell Monica to call me if she needs anything.
Ross: Wait, where are you going?
Chandler: I work today, remember? I was supposed to be there an hour ago, (not concerned) whoops.
Ross: Okay, bye. (Chandler leaves)
Phoebe: Come on Ross, lets go party shopping! (Runs out the door)
Ross: You know, Pheebs, I think I'll stay here... (looks around to see no one)...Okay, you win. (Scribbles something on a piece of paper and leaves)

Scene: Same as above, time lapse. Monica and Rachel enter with shopping bags.
Rachel: Wow, where is everyone?
Monica: (sees Ross's note, reads it aloud) Mon, Chandler went to work. Call him if you need anything, Ross.
Rachel: Okay... lets look at all the cute outfits we bought.
Monica: Actually, Rach, I'm going to bed. I'm exhausted.
Rachel: Yeah, after everything you ate at lunch, you should be.
Monica: I was hungry!
Rachel: Fine, bye Mon! I'm across the hall if you need anything. (Rachel leaves, Monica goes to her bedroom and closes the door)

Scene: same place, time lapse, around 9:00 at night. Chandler enters looking for Mon.
Chandler: Mon? (Looks around, walks to bedroom, opens the door to find her asleep in bed. He walks over and sits next to her, watching her sleep)
Monica: (After a few minutes, she wakes up) Chandler?
Chandler: Hi sweetie. Sorry I woke you up.
Monica: That's okay. (Sits up)
Chandler: I wanted to talk to you.
Monica: Sure.
Chandler: Okay. Phoebe's throwing you a surprise birthday party tomorrow, but I wanted to make sure you're up for it. Because if you're not, I can tell her to cancel it.
Monica: Aw, that was sweet of you to ask, but I'll be okay.
Chandler: Really? Okay, great. Just act surprised. This means a lot to her. I think she really wants to prove you wrong after Rachel's party the other year. (Monica looks confused) When you put her in charge of cups...
Monica: Oh, okay. (Pause) Thanks for telling me.
Chandler: I just don't want anything to happen to either of you. (Puts his hand on her stomach)
Monica: (smiles) You are so cute. (Kisses him) You're going to be a great father.
Chandler: Really? You think so?
Monica: Yep. We're going to be the great parents that our parents weren't.
Chandler: (smiles, Monica lays back with her head on Chandler's shoulder. They fall asleep in each other's arms)

Scene: The next day. Monica & Chandler's. Phoebe, Joey, Ross & Rachel are there with shopping bags filled with decorations.
Phoebe: Okay. Rachel. You're in charge of putting up the streamers and balloons. Joey. You're in charge of putting out the snacks and ordering the pizza's. Ross. You make sure Monica doesn't come in while we're setting up.
Ross: I thought Chandler took her out?
Phoebe: She could still come back.
Ross: So I just sit here all day and watch for Monica? That's no fun!
Phoebe: (glares at him)
Ross: Okay, Okay.
Phoebe: Now everybody get to work!
Rachel: Hey! What about me?
Phoebe: Um... you're...... CUPS! (Pause) Wow, that felt so good!
Rachel: Cups!? Phoebe, that's not fair!
Phoebe: Do you want Ross's job instead?
Rachel: (defeated) no.
Phoebe: Then you get cups!
Joey: What's your job Pheebs?
Phoebe: Oh, I'm in charge of the guest list and you guys. So get back to work Tribianni!
Joey: (walks away)

Scene: Approximately 6 hours later (7:00). Monica & Chandler's apartment is decorated and there are lots of guests there.
Joey: (walks up to Phoebe) Didn't Chandler say to keep the guest list small?
Phoebe: I chose not to hear him say that.
Joey: Oh, okay.
Cut to Rachel standing in the living room, drinking a soda. Gunther comes up to her.
Gunther: Hey Rachel.
Rachel: Oh hi Gunther.
Gunther: You look really... (cut off)
Ross:(bursts in the door) She's coming! She's coming! Everybody hide! (Turns off the lights)
Chandler and Monica enter.
All: (lights go on) Surprise! Happy Birthday!
Monica: (acting surprised but no one can tell she knew) Oh my gosh! You guys this is great!
Judy: (walks up to her) Happy Birthday Sweetheart!
Monica: Thanks Mom.
Jack: There's my Harmonica.
Monica: Hi dad.
Jack: Happy Birthday Sweetie. (Kisses her on the cheek)
Monica: Thanks.
Chandler puts his arm around Monica. Together, they went to great other guests. Several people congratulated them on the baby and wished Mon a happy birthday. They ate cake, opened presents, and continued chatting to other people. Everyone went home, leaving only Phoebe, Rachel, Joey, Ross, and of course Monica & Chandler.

Scene: M&C apartment, after the party. Phoebe, Ross, & Joey are cleaning up various messes around the room, Rachel is reading a magazine at the table, Chandler is sitting on the couch with his feet on the coffee table, and Monica is in Chandler's arms, looking at a book of baby names.
Monica: Oh my god, this is so hard!
Ross: What?
Monica: Picking out a name for the baby. There's so many!
Phoebe: Well, just name her Phoebe. It'll make it much easier.
Rachel: No, name her Rachel!
Chandler: Listen, we're not naming her after either of you, it would be too unfair and too confusing.
Rachel: Yeah, okay.
Phoebe: (from the bathroom) Oh my god! Look at this mess!
Monica: (panicked) Mess? What Mess? (Tries to get up, Chandler stops her)
Chandler: Honey, sit down. You've been through enough tonight. Phoebe will take care of whatever it is.
Phoebe: (walks out from bathroom, gets cleaning supplies, walks back in)(mimicking to herself) Sure, Phoebe will take care of everything. Don't even ask her if she wants to or not.
Chandler: (to Monica) Besides, whatever name we choose will be perfect for her. (rubs his hand over her belly)
Monica: Aw, that's sweet but it's just so har-ow.
Chandler: Did you feel that?
Monica: Yes, I did.
Rachel: (concerned) What happened!?
Monica/Chandler: She kicked!
All: Oh My Gosh/Let me feel/ etc.
Everyone stopped what they were doing to go over to Monica and feel the baby kick. Chandler watched them around her in amazement. It was at that moment when he realized he was going to be a father. It hadn't seemed like there was a little life growing inside his wife before. This experience caused fatherhood to sink in for him ~ and he couldn't wait for the next 4 months to pass so his child could be born.
