Family Readiness Group Weekly Update,
Cluster III Headquarters
Ft. Sam Houston, TX

13 October 2004

Can you believe it? Halloween is upon us, the weather is getting a little cooler, and our current mission is almost two-thirds of the way over. In a world so full of corruption, where families are hurting and temptations to turn away from our country and soldiers is great, all of you have remained strong. It takes a great husband, wife, child, and loved one to support us while we ensure the safety of our nation. Although this is a stress free mission we still feel the tension and the desire to be home with our families and friends. It would be relatively easy to divert attention from our duty to problems at home, but all of you have given us great support. Not once have we seen or heard of one of our soldiers feeling down because of an issue back home. Your support and love for the soldiers here and abroad, your patriotism to our country, and the respect for yourselves is what makes this unit so great. For some of us who have been in the military for awhile this is very impressive, and it speaks great volume for all of you.

Now for our current status information:
Our flag football team has had a rough year thus far going 1-7. We have sustained a few minor injuries to key players, and lost a few games in the closing seconds. However we have been getting better. Last week we picked up our first win 22-20 over the Ft. Sam Drill Sergeants. We also added a few players from brigade who had to disband their team because they were short handed. Our spotlight player thus far is CPT McGruder who with his deceptive lightning speed is leading the team in receiving yards and touchdowns. With the season half way over we loom toward the bottom at 7th out of 8 teams, but all of us make the playoffs at the end of the season and we expect to be closer toward the top by the end of the year. Over the past month we had a float trip down the Guadalupe River just outside of San Antonio. There were a few flipped tubes, and a nice little water fall that you did not want to go down, but most of us did. There was a by pass to avoid it but you know that's not the 129th way to go around things. Overall everyone had a good time and nobody was hurt except for a little pride from getting their tube flipped.

As far as our job we have been working our tails off taking care of the troops across the Midwest. There has been some speculation of terrorist threats around the election and so on, but I would not be worried. Our soldiers are doing an outstanding job both here and abroad and with each passing day are opposition decreases in strength and desire.

We have also had a few promotions over the past moth. Sergeant Bobby Smith was promoted to Staff Sergeant and 2nd Lieutenant Chris Owens was promoted to 1st Lieutenant. Both of these individuals have made great contributions to this mission and we look for great things to come from these two young leaders.

Future Outlook:
Our next main event that some of us are looking forward to now is the big sea fishing trip planned in December. Ten of us will spend around 55 hours out at sea fishing for the big fish. One of our attatched soldiers went fishing with the company that we are going to use and showed us a picture of a mess of fish that most anglers can only dream of.

With all of this excitement at Ft Sam Houston we still agree that there is no place like home. It's like we mention before a strong family keeps a focus and strong soldier. As leaders we appreciate all of you at home for helping us make this a successful mission. From the top leadership to the lowest enlisted soldier we would like to say Thank you, God Bless and we will see you soon.

Halloween Happy Halloween Halloween
