SSG Dino and his wife Kera Galanakis On 16 August 2004, the Galanakis family welcomed John Dino Galanakis who weighed 10 lbs 5 oz into our world. 19 August 2004 Ladies, Gentlemen, Loved Ones, and Comrades in Arms Welcome to an exciting time here at Ft. Sam Houston. Our 129th family continues to grow, our mission is half way over, and football season is finally here. Everything has been running pretty smooth for all of us at Ft. Sam Houston. Although we still have months to go before we start the process of demobilizing troops from some of our sites, we have been coordinating plans for their safe return home. The demobilization process can take time if not properly executed. Our staff has been focused on the military concept "soldiers first, mission always"; we will ensure that our mission is a success, as well as taking care of troops. Our goal is that all of us will be home safely at the end of this mission. Until then, our focus is at Ft. Sam Houston. On the non-work related side, emphasis has been placed on building a competitive post flag football team. The Red Legs coached by 2LT Chris Owens and CPT Blake Beahler have a team of 15, 129th BN players. Our first preseason game was a rough one losing 26-8 to the Rough Riders, a team from Puerto Rico who came up big in the second half to give them the win. We will play one to three more preseason games in preparation for our sixteen game season. As a coach/player I feel that our team will be very competitive. We also have extra incentive to play hard because our very own 135th BDE has also put together a team that we beat once during a scrimmage. Football fans down here have also been purchasing Big 12 and NFL tickets. MAJ Parker has a mapped out board of all the top 10 Missouri High School Football teams class 6A - 1A. Some of us who have not been wrapped up in the new football season continue to enjoy what San Antonio, TX and surrounding areas have to offer. MSG Jewett competed in a local fishing tournament, and CPT Bennett and his family tried their hands at salt water fishing. Other soldiers took part in a local city festival held down town last weekend. Over all, our work hard / play hard mentality has helped us come together as a close knit unit. Most of us would like to be at home, but our unit cohesion has made this stay at Ft. Sam Houston a pleasant one. All of us look forward to coming home and sharing the experiences we have had. We all collectively agree that we can't wait for all of 1-129th to come home so we can start working as one of the best Field Artillery Battalions in the world. Until then, we will do the very best to make this mission successful. |
