5 August 2004 Hello again Families, Loved Ones, and Fellow Soldiers. Movement to building 197 is now complete. We had some communication problems with phone lines and computers, but now everything is running smoothly. Our new location gives us more room to work in. We can resolve issues more efficiently with our higher (Task Force Guardian) who now works in the same building as us. We were concerned with how well our new accommodations would suit our needs, but so far we have a general consensus that this was a good move. Recent weekend activities: Paintball fight #2. Last weekend despite the heat most of the 129th BN went to war armed with CO2 tanks and paint balls. Most of the soldiers enjoyed pegging the XO who was the prime target for some reason; however MAJ Parker did meet his resistance with volleys of paint balls splattering mostly trees and objects kind of close to what he was aiming at. All jokes aside the 129th showed some locals that we are very efficient in our militaristic tactics and discipline. We had 15 of our 129th members take on nearly 50 local paintballers and we won. We rallied together and overwhelmed the opposition by using flanking moves, suppressive fire power, and utilizing our weapons max capabilities. Everyone had a blast and we hope to do it again soon. By now I figured that some of you may be getting tired of hearing form me so here are a few notes from our soldiers. SFC Justin Clapper, current assignment: NCOIC of Section 4, from: DET 1 HHS 1-129th FA BN First and foremost, I know you all hear it all the time, but I'm going to say it anyways, "Thank you, Family Readiness Groups, for every single little thing that you all do!" You should never doubt how important your packages and letters are to us. Although we don't have it as hard as some of our brothers and sisters overseas in the desert or mountains, a deployment is anything but home. I never thought I'd ever say this, but I actually miss mowing my yard in the heat of the day. Although I do not believe that any FRG is more important than the next, I would like to take a moment to mention the small, but powerful, Family Readiness Group at Richmond, MO. Konnie Clancy, Rosita Dial, Jerri Doss, my wife (Heather), Sherri Horton, Tonya Wilson, Lisa Gray, Linda & Merlin Hicks, and last but not least, everyone's Aunt Peg & Uncle Bob, are some of the most dedicated people that I know. Not only do these people do good things for us soldiers, they do great things all around the community. From a soldier to his FRG, "Because of your support is why we as soldiers are succeeding. Thank you." Hope to see ya'll soon.
SFC Clapper poses with his wife Heather, their two sons (Trystan and Wolfgang), and their daughter (Haley) who where down for a visit. SPC Joel McGinness, current assignment: Mail Room / Personal Clerk of Section 1, from: A Btry 1-129th Everything is going great down here in San Antonio. The weather has been perfect for weekend activities like fishing, going to the beach, and going out to shoot paintball. Besides missing family and friends back home it has been a very enjoyable time
On 7 June 2004 PFC McGinness was promoted to the rank of Specialist. MAJ Parker, and CSM Estes performing the ceremony pinning of rank. |
