Family Readiness Group Weekly Update,
Cluster III Headquarters
Ft. Sam Houston, TX

4 June 2004

Hello Ladies, Families, and Fellow Soldiers

I hope everyone had a nice Memorial Day weekend. Some of us went home to see our families over the four-day weekend. I was one of the soldiers who went home and saw some of the tornado damage. It is kind of hard to believe how Mother Nature can have such a devastating effect. I was somewhat shocked by the sites I saw, but at the same time I was strangely at ease. As a Nation we cannot control Mother Nature, but we are able to control terrorism. Did you know that since 911 we have not lost a single American life on U.S. soil to terrorist? This past weekend we remember the brave men and women who fought and died for our country. Our part down here at Ft. Sam Houston seems to only be an insignificant task at times, but the truth is we are vital to homeland security, and you are vital in your support for us. I applaud your continuing effort in helping us perform our duties and keeping our nation safe.

So what are our duties? Two words can easily describe our job (paper work). Almost 1,000 troops through eight different states depend on us to file almost all of their paper work. In my section known as the "One" section we work on pay issues, release soldiers who have fulfilled their duties, or are discharged for various offenses or situations. We cover medical issues, awards, and daily strength reports. Our "Two" section covers intelligence reports for each site. The "Three" section helps with transportation, schools, and travel arrangements. The "Four" section helps with supply and demand issues. Together under LTC Allison, MAJ Parker, and CSM Estes supervision we do whatever we can to take care of the soldiers who guard airports and military installations across the Midwest.

Down here in sunny Texas it is starting to get hot. Monday May 31st San Antonio reached a record high of 104 degrees. Since then it has been in the mid to upper 90's. We have sustained a few minor injuries over the past few weeks primarily due to physical training. The injuries are mainly strained muscles, and few minor twisted joints. Through the few injuries everyone is making outstanding cardiovascular and muscular endurance improvements. A couple worth mentioning is SFC Clapper who has gained 10 pounds of muscle mass, and SGT Piburn who now can run the 2-mile under 13 minutes.

LTC Allison has done a good job of keeping us alert, and preparing us for any obstacle that comes our way. Although we do not have M-16's or worry about getting shot at, we are playing a vital role in homeland security. I hope a great sense of pride goes into everyone performing military duties and to everyone of you at home supporting our troops. We will win this war on terrorism and it's people like you that gives us the desire the fight for our country.

Thank you,
Respectfully
2 LT Christopher R. Owens
Assistant S1

On behalf of MAJ Parker and MGS Corp we would like to Thank you, for your continuing support.
