PARIS SEX MURDERS

(Casa D'Appuntamento)

1972 Fernando Meringhi Italy/France

Starring: Roberto Sacchi, Howard Vernon, Rosalba Neri, Barbara Bouchet, Evelyn Kraft
Yow! a real wacky one here! Set mostly in a brothel, this sleazy giallo features Italian Humphrey Bogart dead-ringer Roberto Sacchi as a frumpy detective investigating the murder of a prostitute. The case at first seems pretty clear cut; the suspect is arrested, but he eventually escapes and is decapitated by a pane of glass-and the murders continue.

Kooky Howard Vernon plays a doctor/scientist guy who digs up the suspect corpse and plucks his eyes out, explaining something about seeing what the killer saw. This interesting idea is then completely abandoned in favor of Rosalba Neri getting nekkid, and people gettin' killed. Not a bad move actually.

After lots of unnecessary plot development and characterization, the killer turns out to be old Howie, who doesn't want his daughter having sex. He feels real bad about all this, so he jumps off the Eiffel tower...the end.

Not at all a bad movie, it effectively creates a sleazy and claustrophobic atmosphere, a lot like the simular Slaughter Hotel. The special effects are by Carlo Rambaldi, who is credited as "Prof. Carlo Rambaldi," Professor of what? bad special effects? Really, they are rotten, but somehow distrubing at the same time.

This wonderfull hunk of Euro trash gets two big thums up from me!
