BLUE RITA

(Das Frauenhaus)

1977 Jess Franco Switzerland

Starring: Pamela Stanford, Eric Falk, Martine Flety

This flick from the height of the Dietriche/Franco collaborations plays like a twisted, kinky Mario Bava film. Lots of strange filters and lenses (love that colidescope lens!) and lighting effects, not to mention the great set design, which manages to look futuristic and retro at the same time: inflatable chairs, big ugly lamps, etc.

The film is just so much fun to look at you don't really need a plot, but it turns out to be pretty damn funny-KGB/CIA/FBI (take your pick) type spys operating out of a swanky nightclub kidnapp important men, take them back to their hidden dungeon/lab and pour a magic potion over them, which drives them wild with...um..horny-ness. Well, blueballs suck, but if you lived with my girlfriend you'd be used to it.

There's alot a twist and turns here and there, but hey, this is Franco and we all know we're here for the boobies, and there's more than enough. The film is quite short, but that also means there are less slow spots, and the pacing is brisk.

Actually, the best scene is an alley kung fu fight with the lovable oaf Eric Falk from the classic Barbed Wire Dolls, it's so damn funny, you have to see it to belive it.
