The place where forgotten characters are finally explored
Percy/Pansy Is There Ever a Chance in Hell? By Sarah Robinson
In answer to the question above, probably not, but what is fanfiction for if not exploring interesting, unconventional relationships? Pansy and Percy are complete opposites, but could there be more similarities between them than people think? The answer is, possibly.
Family
In the Order of the Phoenix, we learn that Percy has abandoned his family and turned to the Ministry. He seems to have forgotten the people that have given him every opportunity his family. Percy has willingly turned his back on his family who have given him a huge amount of love and support, so is it possible that Pansy could want to turn her back on hers?
Pansy is a Slytherin, and although her personality uncertain, maybe she is willing to escape her parents and her life and move on. Slytherins arent known for their loyalty, and that doesnt mean Pansy shows none, it is entirely probable that she doesnt have loyalty toward her house.
Could Percy have made a Good Slytherin?
In the Philosophers/Sorcerers Stone, the Sorting Hat talks to Harry, telling him how he would be good in Slytherin. Just because he did talk to Harry, does not mean it doesnt talk to other students as well as Harry.
When Percy did leave his family behind, I began thinking if he did have the attributes to have been a Slytherin.
You might belong in Gryffindor, when brave they dwell in heart. There are no examples of Percy not being brave, but he was very shaken up after the attacks in Chamber of Secrets, particularly after Penelopes ataack. Could this be a sign of someone without bravery or is it merely me looking at it because I want to?
Or perhaps in Slytherin, youll meet youre real friends. Those cunning folks use any means to achieve their means. He did use any mean to achieve. He lost his family.
Would they be a Good Match?
I would never say never. As a huge Pansy/Percy fan myself, I have never ruled out the option of them being right for each other, but what would they have in common?
Family issues, friend issues, maybe not fitting in, maybe feeling lonely, ambition, working for the Ministry, even somewhere else.
What Options could I use to Put them Together?
Actually, the options are endless. This is fanfic remember? You can put them in any situation you see fit! After Hogwarts, during Hogwarts. They could meet in a pub, at work, Knockturn Alley. Anywhere.
Help with Writing Them
Pansy is a hard character to write for, as everybody writes her differently. To me, she is a little angry and emotional at times, but likes to keep her emotions hidden. She is also not very modest, but cares about those who care about her. In my first Pansy/Percy fic, which probably was a difficult task, she has hidden motives but my readers do not know what they are. At the end of the day, she is still a Slytherin, and the Sorting Hat still put her into that house, no matter how nice the author portrays her.
So, there is a complication in my story. She is nice to Percy, treating him well, buying him clothes, and paying for his place to live. So, what is her bad aspect? I cant actually tell you yet, cause the storys not finished, but believe me, there are Slytherin ways, and they havent gone.
As for Percy, keep him as canon as possible with a depth. Give him a history with his family, his friends. Build him up. Thats all I can say. In two of my stories, he has a sleep problem passed down from his mother. He also has a history with Penelope, which didnt end to well.
Conclusion
In conclusion there was no real point to this essay. It only told you what you already knew, or maybe just what you never thought before. I apologise, but next time you turn to stick your nose up at a PW/PP fic, think again. It may surprise you...
