When did Jesus receive His stripes? If you have read Isaiah 53 recently you will appreciate the importance of the stripes and beating that Jesus received. The following scripture show us when Jesus received His stripes and beatings. Matthew 27:27-31 27 Then the governor's soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers round him. 28 They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29 and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand and knelt in front of him and mocked him. "Hail, king of the Jews!" they said. 30 They spat on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. 31 After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him. Mark 15:14-20 14. "Why? What crime has he committed?" asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, "Crucify him!" 15. Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified. 16. The soldiers led Jesus away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and called together the whole company of soldiers. 17 They put a purple robe on him, then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on him. 18 And they began to call out to him, "Hail, king of the Jews!" 19 Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spat on him. Falling on their knees, they paid homage to him. 20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out to crucify him. Luke 22:63-65 64 They blindfolded him and demanded, "Prophesy! Who hit you?" 65 And they said many other insulting things to him. John 19:1-4 1. Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. 2 The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe 3 and went up to him again and again, saying, "Hail, king of the Jews!" And they struck him in the face. 4. Once more Pilate came out and said to the Jews, "Look, I am bringing him out to you to let you know that I find no basis for a charge against him." All the four gospels record the vital details of the beating that Jesus received. These beatings or scourging brought blood from His body. 1 Peter 2:23-25 23 When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. 25 For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. When did Jesus get His stripes? Prayer Lord Jesus I thank you for your stripes. By your death you paid for my sins and by your stripes you obtained my healing. I receive strength in my body by faith in you.
