| There is no physical location for this museum. It only exists as a web site, newsletters, 3 directors and handouts. There are three current rooms for the museum and a related small business. This web page is room one. Room two is at Some Photos Taken in 2006 and Room Three is at Room Three of Museum More Photos Taken in 2006 . The related small business is a for profit and its site is at Dinosaurs, Trees, Religion and Galaxies Inc. Dinosaurs, Trees, Religion and Galaxies Inc. and some products sold at Books, Cartoons, Cards, Inventions Sold By Related Company I was forced to combine the sites due to lack of donations. Chicago can be proud of participating in the 2016 Olympic competition which gave us the first South American Olympic games. I can still worry about deforestation near Rio, but some day too we will have an ancient Athens like games where the events are held in fields in Alsace, Lorraine, Marseilles, Brussels, Luxembourg, Congo, South Africa, Morocco, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, or Nigeria (first African games), a Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Chicago and a Central American Nation. Some day we will have a games on some open grass with a pool built somewhere. I do hope all flights are safe to Rio after the disaster involving Air France and Belgian related citizens this summer. Recall that the US and France were early leaders in Air Travel with Chicago's Boeing involved in air flight and unfortunately also in missile and weapons sales. Director James T. Struck has recently written on topics such as Nobel Prizes in Medicine possibly being used to abuse persons-French, Belgian and German citizens received several early Nobel Prizes. James argues that medical and scientific research should not be used to discriminate and abuse people. Even Nobel Prize discoveries can be used to abuse people, and that is not what the discoveries are for. Discoveries are not to hold people in facilities because they do something different than the prize winner or have a difference. Discoveries help us understand the universe not take away the rights of those who have a different medical condition. Medicine, and discoveries awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine, can be used, by zookeepers, doctors, persons, guardians and health care providers, to discriminate against, harm and abuse persons, families, children, plants and animals. He has recently argued for the arbitrary character of the Nobel Prize as well. That is that almost any article can be recognized as contributing significant discoveries. This relates to French Revolution concepts of Egalite or equality. Findings are valuable from anyone, and it is hard to say one finding is better than another. James also submitted work called Beyond 4 Forces. See the article here.at Beyond 4 Forces-How Virtual Particles, Quantum Dynamics, Spiritualism, Colloidal Action, Wave Particle Duality,Repulsion,Time, Growth Can Be Added to Fundamental Forces He also submitted articles on how words can be used to study culture. See article here.at Any word can be used to study culture.Arian, Aryan, Aryan- How Words Can Be Used to Study Cultural Ideas and the Development of Human Life. Words Have Historical Complexity There are also recent articles on Chicago museums Chicago's Museums Associated with Depression, Prohibition, Retail Sales, Wars, Turn of Century and Other Issues and Comments on Classics Some Comments About Classics After Reading Some Chapters of Gods and Myths of Ancient World by Mary Barnett, Modern Publishing, NY, 1997 Please do not travel to Illinois or Chicago to visit the museum. In Illinois, as well, "Illinois Probate Law 755 ILCS 5/11a-3 Adjudication of disability; Power to appoint guardian" says "If the court adjudges a person to be a disabled person, the court may appoint (1) a guardian of his person, if it has been demonstrated by clear and convincing evidence that because of his disability he lacks sufficient understanding or capacity to make or communicate responsible decisions concerning the care of his person, or (2) a guardian of his estate,if it has been demonstrated by clear and convincing evidence that because of his disability he is unable to manage his estate or financial affairs, or (3) a guardian of his person and of his estate." There is a risk in being in Illinois of losing rights to decide for being a disabled person with any physical incapacity, inability to manage money or mental illness. France and Belgium were involved in similar issues in the history of slavery. A condition such as darker skin meant loss of rights to decide. Today, mental illness, inability to manage financial affairs or physical incapacity means that you could loose your rights to decide for yourself. France and America did abolish slavery in the 19th century, but slavery like conditions over those with physical incapacity or mental illness can still happen through Illinois Probate Law. Cook County Staff, Illinois Courts and some Nursing homes take actions such as denying- 1. Phone use, 2. Visitation, 3.Fresh air from second hand smoke associated with over 67,000 deaths each year and 500,000 deaths in nursing homes in some years such as 1999 according to a CDC study, 4.dental visits, ophthalmologists, doctors of choice, 6. Reimbursement of care giving bills-reimbursement of family dental, optical, prescription, medical, transportation bills is disputed by Cook County to make money for themselves, 7. going to zoos, reunions, museums, school reunion, family funeral, birthday, religious services and Christmas visits, 8. Family location. Chemicals used on people, consent, medical records, mail are also denied. Concerns about the state taxing corporations involved in harmful issues and a corporation involved in war are responded to with threats and being pushed from buildings or from court. A nursing home director said "you are going to be dead" and "you are going to be dead, dead, dead" in response to these concerns such as requests for fresh air from second hand smoke. Complaints are responded to by Department of Public Health with comments like "we do not have jurisdiction over guardians." Social worker drove a truck near me, blew smoke in my face, threw my mother's toothpaste, baby lotion, clothes on the floor or near garbage in response to these concerns. Local police threatened trespass in the past, even though my mother very clearly requested fresh air from 1-20 smokers at a nursing home, phone use, visitation, going home, toothpaste, toothbrush, baby lotion, going to dentist, going to own doctors and restoration. You may be pushed from health care institutions because you request fresh air from second hand smoke. County sheriff may push you from courts or buildings, because you want to know where your family is. Cook County staff may demand shots without consent because they take your mail, deny chemicals used on you, do not want to reimburse caregiving bills, and retaliate for the fact that the County tax corporations that do harmful things like produce missiles and weapons. Judicial orders give rise to further abuses by other people. Persons with disabilities, differences, limitations risk of loss of all rights under guardianship systems in Illinois and other states. Stating that one has ancestry from France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Lithuanian and Germany is associated with these actions such as shots without consent, denial of access in health care institutions, and County sheriff threats of jail, contempt, and fines. Coming to Illinois with a disability, difference, illness, or incapacity, there is some risk of loss of all rights to decide, all assets, and freedom and liberty lost under guardianship systems. Concerns and complaints are retaliated against with access restrictions, threats of jail or death, fines, and contempt charges. Illinois has more people under state guardian control than any other state and over 800 persons under Cook County Guardian control. The Museum could focus on some small area of French Americans in Chicago (geology, history, culture, churches, art, geography, language, astronomy, child abuse, biology) if others have already developed similar ideas without me knowing it. There is, for example, a Luxembourg Cultural Society and Research Center opening near Kenosha, Wisconsin this year. We currently are focusing on French Region(Belgium, France, Luxembourg, and other nations) human and cultural immigration to Chicago. We do not talk about art, music, or language that much because organizations like the Art Institute talk about art and Alliance Francaise talks about language. I noticed in 2008 that French Horns have a circled shape unlike many of the straight shaped instruments in orchestras that are longer and straighter than other shapes. I noticed this at a practice in the Alice S. Millar Chapel of Northwestern University.Air France accident of June 2009 could have just as easily been a flight related to Chicago. Condolences to relatives, families, and others. O'Hare Airport and Midway Airport did play some role in the expansion of aviation, my mother Jane took planes like Capitol Airlines to French or Belgium related sites back in the 1950's and early 1960's to model at the Atomium. Here are some pictures of some French Related Artifacts in Chicago. Many artifacts are not listed such as St. Norbert living in both Germany and France. There are always changing issues- Glenview Air Station used to monitor, according to a wikipedia posting, submarine activity including French submarine activity, but Glenview Air Station was closed down. Jacques Cousteau used to use submarines for oceanographic research. One can cut and past this into the URL Address Area http://geocities.com/frenchamericanmuseumchicago/SomePhotos.html There are people in Chicago who do not know they were from France, Luxembourg, Belgium or Switzerland or other French speaking countries. Sometimes, from my own experience, saying one is from France is treated as a problem or illness. This idea about a museum began in August and September 2005. Incorporation as a non-profit has been approved. 501c3 status was approved by the IRS earlier in 2007. The French Consulate recently told me there was not funding for the idea; that may change. France is a country of about 6o million in 2003. In 2006, the population was 61,114,000 according to a Time Almanac. It is a republic. The capital is Paris with 11,330,700 people in the metropolitan area in 2003. There are people who are Celtic, Latin, Teutonic, Slavic, North African, Southeast Asian, and Basque in France currently. There are people who speak French and regional dialects like Provencal, Breton, Alsatian, and Corsican. The Franks once ruled areas like Belgium and Luxembourg as well as the French region. The Belges were a tribe in Belgium and the area of Luxembourg has its own language, but still some speak French there too. France has the highest mountain in Europe Mont Blanc. (Time Almanac 2004, Pearson Education, Inc. 2003) This museum is about the people of French descent who came to Chicago and their cultural baggage. They came from France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Corsica, and other nations. They come here to work, visit or teach. They come here to do business or practice professions I have ancestors who were saddlers, leatherworkers, gardeners, and farmers from Luxembourg, France, and Belgium. Someone from France might see themselves as French, but actually be further back in time Celt, Roman, Viking, Burgundian, Alsatian, Italian, Luxembourgish, Belge, German or Spanish Immigrants still come from France. French immigration to Chicago involves sad stories too like struggles with various native american tribes as well. Clashes with the Sauganash, Pottawattamie or other groups like the Illini occurred. All that remains of the native american tribes are a few people, areas like Indian Boundary Park and names of communities like Sauganash. They come here to train for the European Space Agency or to work for the Paris Zoo or local facilities. They come here to study at schools or settle here. People from French Regions come here for hundreds of reasons. The first Catholics in these parts were hunters and trappers, Franco-Indians from the French settlements along the St. Lawrence River and Great Lakes; they would have come here about the middle of the 17th century. They were sometimes accompanied by priests and, as early as 1672, the Jesuits from Quebec had begun to make excellent maps of the area. (Chapter 1 Building God's Community 1868-1978, p.1, St Peter's Catholic Church 1868-69 To 1993-1994) There are churches with French names like St. Joan of Arc, St. Margaret Mary, St. Teresa of Lisieux, St. Henry's, St. Vincent De Paul, St. Frances De Sales. There are churches with Belgian names; like St. John Berchmanns.St. Athanasius used French Materials for the windows. There are French restaurants, French companies, French immigrants, French historical places, signs and tapestries in psychiatrists and therapists offices. There is a copy of the Winged Victory of Samothrace near Adams and Clark. The Louvre holds a similar artifact always full of controveries about taking antiquities from their homes. There are street names with French origins-Marquette, Joliet, LaSalle, DuSable. There are many other French American types of facilities like the Alliance Francaise, French Consular Service, French American School, French Institute of the North Shore, French American Heritage Corridor, a group of people building a museum about Belgian Americans, and several other facilities like the Chicago History Museum. French persons like the Marquis de Lafayette and Rochembeau played a role in the American Revolution. According to one source, the blockade of the Yorktown area assisted in the defeat of Cornwailis at Yorktown The first Settler to the area was French probably- Jean Baptiste Du Sable. He was a hunter and trapper. There are inventors with French ancestors who borrow ideas from Foucault's pendulum. There are people who go to movies like "The Day After Tomorrow" or "March of the Penguins" and other films influenced by French contributors There are biologists studying at universities or museums here from France. There are professors who have studied at the Institut de Pasteur in Paris. Here are some Francophone Related Cultural Ideas, Artifacts and Sites in Chicago. [Some astronomers are Levierre, Laplace...and the people of the Observatory of Paris. Laplace is now still important; an encyclopedia of astronomy says that Laplace thought that problems with collisions with a comet and the earth were important. Collisions are not some new astronomy discovery. Laplace lived in the 1800's]Many objects still have Messier numbers associated with them. There is still significant work done in France at facilities like the Centre des Reserches Strassbourg and Paris Observatory. Cultural baggage includes participation in the European Space Agency. The French contributed to the Carte des Ciels or Map of the Sky in the middle of the 20th century. ZOOLOGY Dans Chicago, la zoologie de France n'est pas un sujet que importante de la zoologie d' Afrique et de Sud Amerique, que c'est mon simple impression.Il y a un site sur les animaux des mondes sur le site de Fund des Wildlife Mondiale.[In Chicago, the zoology of France is not a subject as important as the zoology of Africa and South America; that is my simple impression possibly wrong. There is a site on the animals of the world on the site of the World Wildlife Fund.] I am just referring to the number of exhibits on African animals or researchers I know who work in South America. My impression is possibly completely incorrect. The Field Museum has extensive information about continental drift, so France's zoology was once closer to other areas' zoology. At the Paris Zoo, I was told that their concern is more conservation abroad rather than conservation in zoos. Beavers and otters are at several zoos. Hunting beavers and otters played a role in French presence here in Chicago during some part of Chicago's history. Cousteau was significant in his concern for the preservation of whales and other aquatic life. MEDICINE Pasteur was, of course, one of the contributors to the germ theory of disease. His ideas affect the work of every doctor, nurse and CNA in the City of Chicago.Even at the Institute de Pasteur in Paris, an Italian contributor to the Germ theory of disease is clearly mentioned. There is dispute about the contribution of a French scientist to the discovery of the AIDS virus. The discovery of the Neanderthal man in France and Germany affected our understanding of our relationship with our past. Italian or other scientists played a role in germ theory too, but Pasteur is widely credited with the Germ Theory of Disease. There have been problems with vaccines like the swine flu vaccine, but some vaccines like the polio vaccines have had some success. Work on the rabies vaccine is part of French cultural baggage.Louis Braille worked on helping those afflicted with blindness read. RELIGION. Paul Ricoeur taught here at the University of Chicago. Ideas about religion and "stories" influenced my life a great deal. I only attended one session of his class. There are more French saints in stained glass at some churches than other saints. The contribution of French saints can help us live life even with the sad role the French played in wars, slavery, anti-semitism and imperialism. French saints like Teresa of Lisieux, Thomas Aquinas (taught at the Sorbonne) and Vincent de Paul and Joan of Arc can tell some people little fun stories to help us get through a day. Tom Hundley on 6/19/2006 in the Chicago Tribune wrote about how securalism and separation of church and state is a significant part of French life, and the growth of Islam is part of French religious life. Anti-semitism is one of the sad stories of French religious life. In France, Luxembourg and Belgium, according to books like "The World Must Know- The History of the Holocaust as Told In the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum" by Michael Berenbaum, "77,000 Jews from France were killed in concentration camps,""26,500 Jews were deported to Auschwitz" from Belgium, and "Only four hundred-fewer than one in ten-survived in Luxembourg.(p. 69-70)" The history of antisemitism goes back all the way to early European history "Jews were expelled at various times from England and France, as well as from Spain in 1492, and were the objects of massacres and pogroms from the fifth to the twentieth centuries." According to Berenbaum, "the Gospels were recast to dimnish Roman responsibility and emphasize Jewish culpability in the death of Jesus."(p.13, The World Must Know,Little Brown and Company, Boston 1993) Some French did indeed still resist antisemitism. According to an employee of the Chicago Archdiocese Archives, early churches that spoke French were Old St. Mary's, St. John Baptiste, St. John the Baptist, St. Joseph and St. Anne, Sacred Heart, Holy Name, St. Louis and St. Louis of France. A recent Chicago magazine discusses a mission which existed from 1696-1700. Father Marquette according to that Chicago magazine article started a mission along the Chicago river in the 1600's. Churches with French related names like St. Jane Frances De Chantal and St. Terese of Lisieux in China Town are attended by people each week. SLAVERY and Imperialism. The cultural baggage of slavery is carried by many. My family left from 1850-1878 before the partition of Africa in the 1880's, but slavery was going on before then. Rebellion against French occupation occurred in many states like Haiti, Morocco, Algeria, Syria, Lebanon and Vietnam. There is much conflict in areas formerly involved with France or Belgium. French Catholicism may actually have played a role in slavery and imperialism. Trying to help others may have been used as an excuse to spread to different areas and "help" in a way not seen as help in many cases. There was even imperialism into Mexico with Napoleon III trying to place someone in control of Mexico. This is associated with the Cinco De Mayo celebrations and the defeat of the French at the Battle of Puebla. Use a book like the Chicago Metropolitan Fact Book at the Library to see that many people in this city are of French Descent. You can see that many people who speak French live in the area. There are versions of this book back at least until 1950. There are books in French at many area libraries like the Newberry Library, University of Chicago Library, Northwestern University Library, and UIC Library. |

The color image can be seen as a rainbow showing the many different nations who have immigrants who came here who speak French. Some Belgians, Germans, Ghanians Swiss, Luxembourgers, Moroccans, Algerians, Polynesians, Vietnamese, other nationalities etc. came here speaking French. Institutions like Dank Haus in Chicago might discuss some of these issues that there are French speakers even in Germany as borders shifted back and forth throughout history.
