Shannon's theory of why artists live in groups and are super skinny:
Artists live in groups because then they spend less on art supplies. For instance, They all buy one can of paint each. Then they have 5 [or however many] different colors to paint with, and so it's much cheaper to live in groups than alone.
Artists are super skinny because they live in groups, and therefore don't have much 'studio' space, if any at all. In this case, they need desperately more room, so they do the only logical thing; they transform their kitchen into a studio. This way they have room for art, but none for food. So they are skinner. The kitchen/studio isn't the only reason; paint costs a lot, even split 5 different ways, and so they have no money to buy food, having spent it all on art supplies.
