Butt Ugly is over now, for me, anyway. It is a thing of the past, only exists as a memory now. Ah, but what a memory it is! I will always remember and cherish the moments I had with my cast and crew. As all things must, it has come to an end for me. But, this year, there is a new Comp cast, full of ambition and energy, ready to take on the challenge of a new touring season. Among them is my good friend, Kelly. I was estatic when Kelly made the list; although I knew that she would, as long as she was herself at the auditions. And she was; wacky and energetic, which is exactly what Tanya looks for; Individuality. It was exciting to see my friend make the cast; we had a good cuddlefest when we found out. She is just as excited as I was when I found out I made the cut, and it warms my heart. But this year will also be new in a different way; they are writing a new script for Butt Ugly [they change them every other year], and lucky girl, she [and her cast] gets to have a say in her script, and is even helping to write it! I, could not, however, help, as I was unfortunate enough to have to go to France.. woe is me! But this way, it will all be fresh when I see it in November. I'm dreadfully estatic to see what they come up with this year. But now, the baton must be passed on, so to speak. I must make way for the new cast, who are undoubtably ready to take on the crusade to influence the minds of middle schoolers, one school at a time. I'm sure that with Barb Tarbox's message making an impact out there, it will be smoother sailing than we had [which was, for the most part, pretty damn smooth]. I'm content in knowing that the message is still getting passed on. It's nice to know. But anyway. Adieu. |

As I don't actually have my own Butt Ugly pictures, I will link to the ones Morgan have on her site. They are of her last performance, and so they are a mixed cast. |

Our cool poster! Meh. The first one was better by far. How come we didn't use that one? The touring one? And we're not all here! Half of Hunting is missing; like Elicia! Not fair.

Now entering it's ninth season, Butt Ugly is an anti-tobacco drama program researched and performed by students from all three Red Deer high schools. It will tour middle schools in Central Alberta this Oct. and Nov. Opportunities in Butt Ugly are highly valued and sought after. Seventy-two students auditioned (or applied for technical positions) this spring. Three casts (8 actors, 1 stage manager) have been selected. In the past Butt Ugly, actors and crew have been featured at conferences in Edmonton, Red Deer, and Calgary on the topic of youth and tobacco. Last year they made a presentation at the Senate Tobacco hearings. We have made several commercials- including a television ad about chewing tobacco that was awarded first prize in Florida! As you can see we're well known throughout Central Alberta. |
