Chapter 4

The lupanar was a mile up the road. We arrived at the lupanar in five minutes. I had felt the power and magic in the land. The land had felt me as well and started to reach for me. I had a big problem, when it came to places with high magic and power. I seemed to be a magnet that attracts power to me. It had happened before and had almost cost me my life.

The Ulfric, of The Black Walkers Clan from London, England, had taken it as an insult and challenge to his authority. They had invited me to a gathering, but when I entered the lupanar, something strange happened. The spirits started to rise around me, and started to bow before me. The elemental power of the land offered itself to me. This scared Marduk so bad, he attacked me. My grandmother was there and got angry with Marduk. She had to get some of the other wolves to pull him off me. I don't know why this is and I probably wouldn't want to find out, but the four councils have a protection law on me now. If anyone hurts me or brings any harm toward me, it is an automatic death sentence. There was more to this than my grandparents were telling me, but getting it out of them was like talking to a brick wall. I do know that it kept me from being a flunky or slave of the courts.

I thought the biggest thing that scared me, about my magic, was that I had the power of the elements. I never knew what would happen when I worked my magic. I had to be extremely careful when using fire, because some things get set on fire easy. Tonight the elements were unbalanced and the air was thick with tension. I knew something was wrong because the spirits were restless, upset, and they sounded as if they were crying.
I turned to my stepmother, "Something's wrong. The elements are unbalanced and the spirits are going crazy."
"I know. The lupanar is empty. The wolves should have arrived by now. We better go to the farm house and find out what has happened," she replied over her shoulder.
We turned to the left a little, toward the farmhouse. The farmhouse sat on twenty acres of land. It sat far away from the road, where no one saw it. There was the huge barn up the hill to it's left.

We saw from our view up in the sky six cars parked in the driveway. One of them was a police car. Two police officers came out of the house, dragging a man that looked to be in his late twenties. He was 6'3" with brownish blonde hair, and well built with mostly muscles. The guy had on a pair of tight blue jeans, white tee shirt, and a pair of running shoes. My stepmother shook her head and we flew down, landing on the sidewalk in front of the steps to the house. The officers had just put the man in the back of the car.
My stepmother ran up to the officers, "What's going on here."
One of the officers looked at her and said, "We had a warrant for this man's arrest."
"A warrant for his arrest! On what grounds?" she nearly yelled.
"For murder Mame," said the other officer.
"Murder!" she was furious. Then she looked at the guy in the car, "Is this true Richard?"
He just shook his head no, implying he had not committed the crime. My stepmother looked like she was going to go off the deep end. I knew she was about to yell at the officers, so I went over to keep her from getting arrested.
"Who has he been accused of murdering," asked my stepmother.
"I'm not allowed to say Mame?" replied the officer
"What do you mean, you're not allowed to say? I want to know whose murder your charging him with?" My stepmother asked yelling in the officer's face.
Oh great this was all I needed. So I pulled her away to try and calm her down, before she did something stupid, like getting herself arrested.
"Mom, take it easy. Theyre only doing their job.. Your only making things worse, not only for Richard, but for yourself as well," I told her.
"I know, but Richard wouldn't do something like this. It's not like him", she said on the verge of tears.
"I understand, but I don't want to be the one to call dad and tell him youre in jail", I told her groaning at the same time.
She just stood there and looked at me. She thought about what I said before she made a reply, "Fine. I'll keep quiet for Richard's sake."

She walked over to the officers, said something to them that I couldn't hear. They nodded their heads and got into the car. Mom walked back to me and the officers pulled off. I had respect for my stepmother, even though she's a pain in the ass.
She turned to me and said, "Lets go inside to see who all is here, and find out what has happened." She walked towards the house and I followed her. This is going to be an interesting night and I bet you it's going to get even more interesting.
