Chapter 18

The entire pard, minus Elizabeth, was hanging around the living room.

They all looked over at us when we came in from downstairs. Some of

them took one look at me and tried not to laugh. Others were staring

in disbelief at what they saw. I just ignored them all and went toward

the front door and out onto the porch. Anita came out behind me and

pulled the door closed behind her. She glanced over at me and I just

shrugged. She knew that the color change was starting to bother me and

left it alone. I walked down the front steps and went toward the

vehicles, not waiting for her to follow. I watched from the side of the nearest car

as Nathaniel came out of the house, with something in his hand

and walked toward me with Anita. She unlocked the doors of a

burgandy minivan and I went over to opened the passenger door.

Nathaniel handed me the package he was holding and slide the side door

open so he could get into the back seat. I looked down to find some

pop tarts in my hand.

I smiled at Nathaniel and said, "Thank you."

"You're welcome," He replied.

I got up front with Anita as she started the jeeps engine

We drove the entire way to the police station in silence. I stared

out the window most of the way there, watching trees go by. I liked

the city but preferred the country. It's quiet and lets you think and

unwind. The closer we got to civilization the more houses and

buildings you saw. Finally what seemed to be eternity, we arrived at

the St. Louis P.D. headquarters. Anita parked her jeep in the visitor

parking lot across the street from the police station. She cut her

engine off and we got out and walked across the street into the

building. The traffic was slow for this part of the day, so it didn't

take us long to cross. We were greeted by a female officer, who was

sitting behind a desk at the bottom of some stairs. Sitting at the

bottom of the stairs and beside her desk was a metal detector.

"Good Morning. May I help you?" She asked while eyeing Nathaniel up

and down with a smile.

"Yes, I'm here to see Sergeant Storr" Anita answered.

"May I ask who you are?" She said still staring at Nathaniel. She must

be a new officer to the force. Anyone else would have known who Anita was.

Anita just smiled and said, "I'm Anita Blake, This is Agent

Montgomery, (pointing at me), and we have an appointment to see Sergeant

Storr like yesterday."

"Ok let me call up to his office, " She replied still ogling Nat.

The officer was still scoping out Nat, while she was on

the phone with the Sergeant, and Nat was just standing there with a

smile on his face, like he was used to being ogled over.

I had to shake my head, good thing she kept her eyes somewhere else.

Lord only knows what she'd do if she took one good look at me. Finally

Lieutenant Cooper got off the phone. I got her name and rank by

looking at her name badge.

"You may go on up now Ms. Blake," she said, turning toward Nat and

waving goodbye.

"Thank you. Say goodbye to the nice Lieutenant, Nathaniel," replied Anita.

"Goodbye nice Lieutenant," Nat said with a smile.

She sat back down with a sigh and I just shook my head. My stomach

took that moment to grumble and the officer glanced at me. She took

one look at me and her mouth dropped. I pulled the poptarts out of my

pocket, unwrapping them and took a bite. Then ran through the metal

detector to catch up with Anita leaving the poor Lieutenant staring

behind me.

I finally caught up with Anita and Nathaniel at the top of the

stairs. There was only one door up here and she opened it, leading us

through. We stepped into a noisy office full of plain clothes detectives.

There was barely any room to move around due to all the people and

cubicles. Anita started moving toward the back with Nat and I on her

heels. The officers looked up as we past by and the noise stopped,

every one of them turned to stare at us. I believed for the most part

that it was me, that they were staring at. I don't think they'd ever

seen a blue person before, so I waved at them with a mouthful of

poptarts and continued down the aisle of cubicles. We came to a door

in the back part of the office and Anita knocked.

A gruff voice on the other side yelled, "Come in."

Anita opened the door and we followed her in. There were two

detectives in the office and they both looked up as we entered. One

was over 6ft tall and had dark hair cut short leaving his ears to

stand bare. He was wearing a grey suit with a white stiff collar

shirt. He was built like a pro-wrestler. The other one was about 5ft 8

and not very big. He has streaks of grey in his dark curly hair and

his attire made me think'that he must of dressed in the dark. He was

wearing brown dress pants and a grey jacket. His tie had pocka dots on

it and his shirt was blue.

The mix and match guy had spilt his coffee all over himself when I

entered the room and the big guy well he fell out of his chair and hit

the floor. Mr. Clown went to help Big Guy up and back into the chair.

Anita was smirking and Nathaniel had to cough to keep from laughing.

I didn't find it amusing, but then again this was my fault since I was

blue.

Anita smiled and said, "Good morning Dolph, Zebrowski."

"Good morning Anita," Mr. Clown said while staring at me.

The Big Guy got up and came around the desk, "Good morning Anita.

Who's your friend?" He asked pointing at me.

Anita turned to look at me and her smile widen and I groaned. "This is

Agent Alexandra Montgomery. She's the one I told you about last night,"

Anita answered.

"You've got to be kidding me," the Big Guy murmured.

"No I'm not. Alexandra this is Sergaunt Rudolph Storr," she said

pointing to the big guy. "And this is Zebrowski," (pointing to Mr. Clown).

They took turns shaking my hand. When the introductions were over.

Sergeant Storr motioned us to be seated, while he took his own seat

behind the desk.

Once everyone was seated, the good Sergeant got down to business.

"So your the special agent that the International Government is so

proud to have in their ranks," He said making it more of a statement.

"Yep that would be me," I said with a smile. Feeling proud to have

such good comments said about me.

"What I want to know is why you didn't show up last night?" he asked

with a glare.

"Dolph I told you why she wasn't here," Antia cut in.

"I know you told me, but I want to hear it from her," Dolph commanded.

Everyone turned to look at me and I chose that moment to stuff the

rest of my poptarts in my mouth. I thought about how to answer this

question while chewing my food very slowly.

Finally I finished eating, thinking and answered the Sergeant's

question, "I was having a dispute with my father over property issues."

Anita just snorted and Nathaniel went back to coughing. It sounded

more like he was trying to hack up a hair ball.

Dolph glanced between the three of us and just shook his head. He

changed the subject and pulled out a file folder from his desk drawer.

He laid it on his desk and opened it up. I could see from where I sat

that the files were on the Dorkson case.

He flipped through it, while the rest of us sat in silence waiting for

him to speak.

He surprised us all when he said, "I want to see the wounds Mrs.Montgomery

"Do what?" both Anita and I said in unison.

"You heard me. I want to see what these people did to you for myself," He stated.

Anita and I just glanced at each other, then she nodded her head. I

groaned and dropped my glamour. Sergeant Storr and Zebrowski had full

sight of the bandages that went over my shoulders and around the rib

area. You could make the outline of them through my shirt.

I had to unwrap all the bandages in order for them to see. Nathaniel

got up to help me with them and in no time I was unwrapped.

Storr came around his desk to stand in front of me. The chest wound

was visible without having to take anything off. Then again it's not

hard to miss twenty stitches. He examined it and did that uh huh thing

doctors have a habit of doing.

Then he said, "Ok lift up the shirt so I can see the ribs." I did as

he asked and he bent down to take a look at them. He whistled and

said, "Good lord girl. I don't know who's worse with getting hurt you

or Anita."

"Now what's that suppose to mean?" Anita asked.

Storr looked over at Anita and said, "You should read her file sometime."

Anita glanced over at me and I just shrugged. I knew that when I was

brought into this, Sergeant Storr would want my records. He probably

knew more about me than what I'd told Anita already.

"So now do you believe us?" Anita asked.

"As much as I hate to admit it, but yeah I believe you," Storr said

running his fingers through his hair.

He then turned to Zebrowski, "Zebrowski go and get the paper work

ready, so we can release Richard."

"Yes boss," Zebrowski replied giving us a big smile on the way out the

door.

Storr sat back down in his chair and began going over the case. We

answered his questions and he took notes, listening to everything we

had on this case.

After an hour Zebrowski came back into the office with the paper work.

Storr signed all the papers for Richard's release.

Once he was finished, he glanced at us, took a huge sigh, and said,

"All right let's go get Richard out of his hotel room."

"You put him in a hotel?" Anita asked.

"Yes. It's the only place I could think of at the time. Besides there

are uniformed guards at the door," answered Storr.

"Oh sure, now that's punishment for a man who is charged with murder,"

Anita says while rolling her eyes.

I tried not to laugh, but it just came out. Storr looked at me and

said, "What do you find so funny Smurfette?"

I laughed that much harder and I didn't know why. Anita started

laughing as well and before long everyone was laughing, including Storr.

Finally after everyone stopped their bits of laughter Storr got

serious again.

"I'll have Zebrowski take you all over when he gets back," he said.

As if he heard his name, Zebrowski came through the door. "All taken

care of boss and I called ahead to the hotel to let the officers know

Anita was on her way to release Richard."

"Thanks. Now would you mind taking Anita and Smurfette over to the

hotel?" Storr asked.

"Not a problem," he answered. Turning toward us he said, "If you

follow me ladies and gent, we will get the show on the road."

As we left Sergeant Storr stopped me before I went out the door,

"Agent Montgomery."

I turned and said, "Yes."

"I know you were on this case before, but I'm in charge of it now, so

don't go and do anything without consulting me first. Understood," He

commanded.

"You got it Big Guy," I replied with a smile and turned to leave.

"Oh and one more thing," he added before I had time to disappear.

"Yes Sergeant," I asked.

"Make that two things. One call me Dolph. Second if you hear or see

anything you call me and I'll do the same," he answered.

"Okie dokie," I said then ran out the door to catch up with everyone else.

We left the precinct and followed Zebrowski to the hotel where

Richard was being kept. I wonder how Richard was going to handle

everything once he'd been told about the case.

My collegues back home would be furiated if they knew I was telling

civies about cases, but in this case Richard had the right to know why

he was framed for murder.
