My mother walked the floor wringing her hands together, while trying to find the words that she needed to tell me whats going on. After about five minutes, she threw up her hands and plopped down on the bed.

Letting out a long sigh, she looked at me and said, Im going to let you in on a little family secret. I was trying to avoid telling you this because I was trying to protect you and your sister. But I guess after what happened last night I wont be able to keep anything from you any longer.

I sat there quietly listing to her go on and wonder what she was getting at, but didnt interrupt her as she continued on, Im going to give you some family history that I hoped would stay buried. Im going to tell you a story that should have stayed in the past, but unfortunately as The Fates have it, the thing reared its ugly head. Remember as I tell you this Cecilia, that I kept this from you and Pam to protect the both of you from the horror of our history. Its also why I try to push you girls so hard to have a normal magic free life.

I raised an eyebrow and being the smart ass that I am replied, I thought you pushed us so we would make something of ourselves and not end up in the gutter like Uncle Tyrk.

She smiled weakly and patted my leg and stated, Well theres that to.

Uncle Tyrk was a drunk and crazy fool. He had one time jumped off a 6 story building thinking he could fly. He survived somehow and wound up in the hospital for a few months with broken body parts. He was only 53 with a balding spot forming on the top of his head. He was slightly chubby with creamy skin, brown eyes and hair. Hes now spending most of his time picking up trash along the road for community service. We wont get into why hes doing community service. My mom was trying to forget that little incident and dont like it when we bring it up. The reason for that is Uncle Tyrk was my moms twin brother.

My mom had gone quite for a moment and just stared. It almost looked as if she was staring at something past me that only she could see. Then her attention came back to me and she questioned, Do you have any understanding of what attacked you last night Cecilia?

I shrugged and said, Yes I do. Why?

She shook her head and replied, I do not thing you really do my child.

The shaking of her head caused her hair to come lose from its bun. She looked like she was about to cry and that had me worried. Mom never gets this emotional unless something is terribly wrong and it seems that something is terribly wrong. I reached out and touched her right arm with my hand. She smiled at me and patted my hand and said, Were wasting time so lets get on with the story shall we.

I nodded a mom began her tale. Centuries ago during the Dark Ages our ancestors battled a great evil. People were dying from famine, disease and poverty. The villagers even though they were slipping from this world, were disappearing from their beds at night. It came to the leader of our ancestors clan that something had been awakened that shouldnt have been awakened. It destroyed everything and killed countless of people. It didnt matter if they were sick or healthy cause in that time, most of the rich escaped the famine and diseases by cutting themselves off from the rest of the world. Anyway the Duncans searched all the familys past history scrolls to find out what this thing was. What they discovered didnt set well with the Elders. The evil that rode the night sky was older than human kind. Its birth was somewhere before the beginnings of man or close to it. The old shamans had once worshipped it as a god, preventing it from killing them by making certain offerings. As time went on things were good until the wars started, when the creature was banished from this earth to sleep for eternity. Somehow someone had uncovered its resting place and released it to walk once more among the living. No one really knows it origins and no one really had the guts to ask it. Our family prepared the necessary tactics to send it back to its grave. What worried them all was the fact that the creature could shape shift into anything and anyone. There are some whove seen him as human, others as a dragon, then some who say hes taken the form as both, which is known as Draconian. Our people werent strong enough to go against something that powerful but knew if they didnt, it would continue on to the next village until there was nothing left. After losing a few members, they finally trapped the creature inside a cave, sealing it up inside a stone sarcophagus. They buried it deep within the earth, sealing off the cave from outsiders forever. The Elders figures as long as the earth wasnt disturbed, the world would be safe. The village people should have been grateful to the Duncan clan for saving them but with the rise of the church, they blamed our ancestors for the destruction and soon they were being hunted. The towns folk destroyed everything that belonged to our family and you wouldnt be here today if some of our clan didnt survive the attack. They had barely escaped with their own lives.

My mother stopped there to catch her breath and I was left staring at her opened mouth. No wonder mom kept this from me and Pam. If I was her I wouldnt want me to know that either. When the shock blew over I asked, Ok I understand why you wouldnt want to tell us the families dirty laundry, but whats this got to do with Mr. Fangy Pants.

My mother paled and looked straight at me when she answered, We believe the creature has been freed again and its the same thing that killed all those people and attacked you last night.

She just sat there while I took everything in. I was speechless and didnt know what to say. The truth was that I wasnt going to get a chance to say anything. Because a terrifying scream came out of nowhere to shake the foundation of the building like an earthquake. Two seconds later the glass windows shattered spewing fragments of it everywhere. A shadowed figure loomed in the window and I screamed. It was him, my nightmare coming back to finish me off. My mother tried to get between us to protect me and was thrown across the room to hit the wall. The impact had knocked her out and before I could scream again he had me by the throat cutting off my screams and breathing.

He leaned close to me and whispered into my ear, I believe we have unfinished business my sweets.

Then he threw me across the room, ripping all the tubes out of my arms and out the window. The cold night air hit me like a fist to the chest. The rain had stopped but the air fore told of more to come. I should have fallen to my death but something or someone held me tight around the waist. I turned my head back to meet a pair of golden serpent like eyes, and then the world went black for the second time in two days.
