Growing up can be a really weird thing. For as long as I can rememeber, my parents and I would go to my aunt and uncle's house for random events, some being things like a birthday, a welcome back for someone who just got back from the Philippines, an anniversary... filipinos would find any reason to gather and eat. So thi spast Saturday was my cousins birthday. So it would usually be the same things, my family get there and we are greeted by everybody with warm smiles. My mom rushes into the living room saying hello to everyone adn starts mad gossip, my dad shakes everyones hand and usually speeds to the food. Then me, I see all my cousins and we just hang out. But this time was really different. I was a college kid... it just hit me. I wasn't running around with Kevin, Brian and Dan, and like 137012938092183 of my other relatives playing video games (I rememeber when we played Soul Reaver ^-^), eat as much filipino food as we could, play hide and seek, usually making a mess of the place, watch TV in the basement, with Uncle Joe's giant big screen. I rememeber there was the Lazy Boy down there too, and all of us would fight for it, for about a good hour, and we'd be so tired that we all just lied on the floor. We would bring all our Pokmon cards and brag to one another what cool cards we had (wow I was a real loser), we would climb this tree in the front porch, while eating Ate Tina's empanadas ^-^. Since back home, with my dad and all, things we're mostly American for me. But being at my aunts and uncles for this countless parties was as Filipino as Filipino gets.
But this time it was different. It's been a good year and a half or so since I was there. Here I am now, this college freshmen, grown outta hide and seek, grown outta Pokmon, grown outta video games (well not completely). The tree we used to climb was now as high as my head. I always thought that tree was wayyy taller. The bathroom had some weird memories. I remember that was my hiding place back when I was a kid. No one ever thought of looking in the tub, behind the curtains. I don't think I told anyone about that lol. The big screen TV was still huge, man video games on that baby rocked my socks. The Lazy Boy was pretty beat up (I have no idea why) and when you sit in it, it kinda sagged. I checked out the food and that made me happy. While I was getting my good helping of Lechon and pansit, I saw all the little kids running around. Wow... that was me a good ten years ago. I was running around, having fun and just having a good time. Oh man. That really hit me. We have a new generation of kids. I thought that was weird, yet awesome all at the same time. So I go down to the basement to chill with Brian and Kevin. Man they are so grown up now (I was the oldest of us). Damn yo... Even when you think you're old enough to understand everything, life can still surprise you and make you look back and be happy
Hmm so let's see, Lord of the Rings is next week. Yea right... that music is so messed up. But yea Im so excited for that, I've never sang with an orchestra before, and this is my second college concert! We have a three hour practice at school tommorrow... eww school on a sunday? yea sucksss. I got to see people home from college this weekend! Hung out with Andi and Julie on Weds, went to the mall and saw like 34209384028340 other people, got sick that night, Thanksgiving was good (weird but good) and saw more people last night. I really miss my friends, I'm so glad I got to see them this weekend. It's almost Christmas (holy shit!) so that means its gonna snow... yuck. aright guess that's it. Oh yea! and thefacebook is offically addicting lol.
Sunday~ November 7, 2004

Halloween at the carousel was quite a sight. You had a cow, a bumblebee, Britney Spears, an asian samurai, Norman, Eeyore, Indiana Jones and the Blue Power Ranger. What a combo! For the Friday and Saturday, we were open till 10pm for Zoo Boo. What they did at the zoo was make it all scary and ish like having people jump out at you will your riding the train in pitch black darkness. Now for a little kid, thats mad scary, at least I thinl. Now for the carousel, we just had smoke and fancy lights lol. It was pretty cool actually, with the music going and all. I was in the booth Friday, I havent been at the carousel at night, so the at the window, all I could see was my reflection, so that was interseting. Saturday, I ran the candy stand, that was peachy keen. But watching Sue in her tight ass Power Ranger suit was priceless... then seeing little 6 year old boys with the same costume made it even better. Schools been having its ups and downs. I'm so sick of all these papers I've had to do, it sucks lol. Mwhahah.. I got Greg and his quartet to play my song, Thunder, at the composition recital in Feb so Im happy. Ah yea, I should study some theory tonight lol.
Thursday we had a mall party lol. Lets see, it was me, Jess, Tino, Kate, Jay, Kate, Jackie and Desi. After Tino and Jay getting lost in Oradell and me finding them, we go to GSP and ate, did like no shopping and left lol. But yea Triple F all the way baby! Let's get raped by diction! Ok so this past Friday, I go to work like usual to find like three cops sitting in front of the carousel. So I ask whats up and they're like you might not open today. Its like an awesome day out too so Im like wtf. Norman shows up and then after talking to him they leave. So we continue with the day getting like 20 people then the cops come back and they shut us down! Apparently theres some conflict with the insurance being expired so we couldnt stay open. So I got to leave an hour early, then headed to class. Then the next morning, I get a call from Jim saying that they couldnt fix the problem and so the seasons ending early! Me and Sue were frantic so we rush to the carousel (still seeing the slow motion runner up and at it) and see the cops there again. So I guess that was the end. Since it was Jims last day, I got Taylor and we had a goodbye lunch type thing. Twas sad to see Jim leave... ah well. I still need a job for winter! argh So afterwards I did some schoolwork, got to hang out with Kathryn and Andi G and Paul home from college. We played pool, and me and Andrea pretty muched sucked. enough said lol. Then that night I saw the Shanghi quartet perform at Kasser. Amazing lol. so guess thats it. peace out

The Kaleidoscope concert last Friday night was awesome! Showed up in my tux, all cleaned up at the Kasser Theater. I had class before that, so I walked back to my car to get my tux, it was rainy so my pants got pretty wet. So I get channged and walk to the place, seeing everyone all set and ready to go. The backstage of the theater is like a freaking maze! So we all hang out in the Green Room, taking pictures and reviewing our music (hahaha yea right) So we warm up our song before the show starts, tweaking spots here and there. Then we head back into the room and form our lines. We wait backstage while the symphonic band plays, me and Andrea making up dances to all the songs. So then boom! We're on stage! I realized standing there a few seconds that we have never done the song all the way thru without stopping lol. It also hit me that wow, I'm in college... this was the first time I'm standing in a chorus without seeing Ms Smith's electric hair and her weird motions in the same auditorium. Another weird thing was having folders with my music. Its so cramped up there that my music is like up my nose and I can't read it. I soon discovered I can see the music better from the guy in front of me. Another thing I noticed was that our conductor was like 3 city blocks away from us. There was all the symphonic band chairs and music stands lol. I was alos standing right next to the sopranos which was pretty weird being that we were like 4 octaves apart. So with our performance, we damn straight blessed that house, raised that roof, and dropped those beats with our accapellas. For my first college concert, it was pretty cool. Check out all the pictures here
Saturday at work was quite an easy day. I love having Jim as MOD. It was pretty cold all day, yet all the bees were all over the place. We had quite a war getting all those bees under control. I still don't know what to be for Halloween. I'm thinking about Winnie the Pooh. I want a costume that'll cover the whole body cause we're open till 10 at night the weekend of Halloween. I gotta get my cousin a costume too... he wants to be Batman lol. I failed my theory test the other day... totally ruined my 100 average (im serious!) but the whole class failed so we got a retake today. The guy can't teach for shit, but for some things, ya gotta play with the cards ur dealt with (im missin my card games). So theory and aural skills is my own personal challenge! Mwhahaha! I performed at last weeks practicum, I gotta work on my syncopations. I still need a job for the winter, when the carousel season ends. Any suggestions? well thats all folks... peace out
Tuesday~ October 12, 2004

So got through the first month of college. Its going pretty well, I think. Its getting colder out, which makes me upset. I'm back to long sleeves and pants. I want the warm weather to come back soon. Hopefully winter's not too bad. Last Sunday, I helped Bernie with her talk at our beloved McDonalds. Its now official, we were kicked out by homeless hobos. Jess and I have had lots of fun running around campus looking for FHK lol. Classes are pretty good, altho I really don't see the point of this Freshmen Seminar class; kinda pointless. I'm really liking my piano lessons with my new teacher, he's awesome. My practicum class is pretty cool too, except for when I have to play... I'd rather just watch the others play. In a way, I kinda feel overwhelmed with work.. but I get most of it done right away. I always in the music hall, just haning around and stuff, playing around with my iPod on the pianos or chilling in the computer lab. Composition practicum was really funny... our teacher puts the DVD player on the table behind him, then pulls down the projector screen. "Damn why wont this remote work? I just changed the batteries" "Umm sir, maybe cause you need to point it at the DVD player, not the projector screen"
Chorale has been tough. "Bless this House" is kinda a tough song, and the Lord of the Rings stuff is even more difficult. And my first college concert is this Friday, the Kalidescope Concert, opening up the new Kasser Theater on campus. So I bought my tux yesterday, I'm hoping it'll last all four years for the price I paied. Can't wait for this concert, first college performance! w00t w00t!
Bond are in the middle of their millionth Asian Tour. They just hit Hong Kong, with an amazing performance. I wanna see them with a live band! Their performance of Wintersun, Ride and Fuego were my favorites. Oh man hot stuff. Theyr'e coming back in December at BB Kings so I can look foward to that. Oh and they're coming out with a new version of Classfied, with two new songs; Carmina and Caravan. Peace out kiddos
