The children of America are being corrupted. Its not in the violence in media we think is wrong, its in the very things children are allowed to enjoy, and enjoy as much as they desire. For example, if parents find something objectionable, such as R-Rated movies, TV shows, etc., they will shun their child from it. But did they even think of analyzing the childrens movies, television shows, and other things they deem safe? The truth is, the things that are corrupting children the most are going unnoticed.
One of these which I will elaborate on is a type of cartoon known as anime. Anime ranges from cute acceptable shows like Hamtaro and Pokemon; to shows like Sailor Moon which sexually exploits middle school girls; and Dragonball Z, in which the dead can be brought back to life, teaching children that death is just a minor setback. These cartoons are imported from Japan and dubbed, and usually edited to weed it of objectionable material. This material consists such things as intense violence, swearing, nudity, sexuality, incest, trans-gendering, homosexuality, perversion, pedophiles, drunkenness, drugs, and more. We are not talking about hints or innuendos- we are talking about hard-core mature themes. For example, the violence isnt just punching and kicking and taunting. It is bones breaking, necks snapping, people being impaled, slitting peoples throats, blood spilling out of mouths, decapitation, losing of limbs, and other terribly objectionable material. While the worst is edited out before the show airs on television, hints and innuendos still remain, letting an educated watcher know exactly what went on. Further still, if there was a very violent movie that had its worst edited out, would you still let your children see it? Any decent parent would still say no. But is it a different standard for cartoons? Most guardians would shrug it off, figuring if it is animated, it must be appropriate for children. This cant be farther from the truth. Although most animes rating is TV Y-7, that doesnt mean anything. I know three year olds that watch them.
And what about other childrens favorites, such as Harry Potter? It is very well known, and seemingly innocent. However, the first thing that might cross certain peoples minds is Wait, witchcraft? The stories are based on a young hero who practices wizardry and spells. This may be deemed as wicca rather than the black arts, but in Christianity, that is still considered a great sin. First, witchcraft is based on the worship of many spirits and deities of the earth, contradicting the first (and perhaps most important) commandment. And in the first book, the characters celebrate Christmas, demonstrating that they follow the Bible, making them all terrible sinners. Further more, in Exodus, it is stated that all witches must die. It is also prophesied in the Bible that the Antichrist would emerge around the year 2000, disguising itself as a familiar and joy-bearing theme about the time Harry Potter began to achieve popularity. I would not bring this up, except I know my Catholic Church obsesses with the Harry Potter books and even held a Harry Potter theme night. Ive proven that this is wrong, but do they know? Do they care to know?
In conclusion, children are being truly corrupted in the world they are brought up in. The source isnt violent adult movies, songs, or videogames- its in the very things the children are being taught to like- to view as right. Even if it were adult movies, the children might accept that they are the wrong audience. But in media aimed towards youthful audiences, the children are taught that this is right- they are supposed to accept and enjoy this, that it is the way children should be like. Of course, it is not my duty to try going about changing the world, to change childrens likes and dislikes, but all I ask is this- think twice before letting your children, siblings, and relatives obsess over these things, please. For if they do, who knows what is inevitable.
