ok now this once and for all is my opinion on birthdays.  especially mine and receiving gifts.

I don't believe in giving presents for birthdays.  It's like, "Congratulations! You were born!... whoo hoo."  It's just an annual excuse to get gratuitous
amounts of material gifts.  Christmas is more of a family occasion (and it's
love and be-good-to-your-neighbor themed), so I don't mind that... but a birthday?  It's like a celebration of ME.  I celebrate me all the time, and others should too.  It should be a mutual, year round thing, the act of giving presents and demonstrating love.  There shouldn't be one day where everyone you knows tries to make up for not appreciating you for the rest of the year by piling on the material possessions.  ...I mean, That's just not kenneth logic.  So stop thinking you are cute and buying me gifts.  If you do, I'll feel obliged to return the favor.  Just give me a hug, tell me you care about my existence, and help make my birthday only slightly more happy than every other day of a natural year could be.
