My history of Independent video before I was good or knew anything about what the hell I was doing began during my 8th grade year. My socials studies class was faced with the godawful task of History Day, a nationwide program designed to get kids active and interested in History. Crock of bullshit, but I chose to research the Beatles and I did an Independent (by myself, no group members) 10 minute informative video. Sound like a lot of work. Holy shit. A full weekend lost to shooting, and 17 hours in an editing suite. And I was 13, mind you. It was quite overwhelming. But when it was over, I suddenly missed it greatly. So that's how it began. It was all about the Beatles baby. And the vid wasn't that bad. I won first place in the regional competition and then went on to state and graciously lost. Half-happily lost. Was so laid back and non-committed, lost. Okay with losing. But it still is fun. My first video. It was neat. That's all. |
