| State Parks- Wyoming has twelve state parks: Bear River, Boysen, Buffalo Bill, Curt Gowdy, Edness K. Wilkins, Glendo, Guernsey, Hawk Springs, Hot Springs, Keyhole, Seminoe, and Sinks Canyon. The parks are located throughout the state so you are never far from good water recreation and fishing. See the following link for Wyoming�s official state park�s page. Ghost Towns- Many western states have ghost towns crated by various boom/ bust cycles in the mining industry. Wyoming is no exception and has over 50 ghost towns. Some of these towns, like Atlantic City and South Pass City, are best to visit during the non-winter months. Atlantic City and South Pass City are also some of the most well preserved ghost towns in Wyoming. Silver Crown, Helca, Sherman, Dole City, and Tie City are all located near I-80 between Cheyenne and Laramie. In the Big Horn Mountains, near Sheridan, the ghost towns of Acme, Dietz, Kuzaraville, Kooi, Monarch, Slack, Mineral Hill and Aladdin may be found. Acme is the best preserved of these towns and still has over 100 residents. Rock Climbing- Wyoming has around 40 known rock climbing sites. The Pinedale area has a very nice site. The Vedauwoo site, Between Cheyenne and Laramie is very popular. Devils Tower is a world famous site located in Wyoming�s Black Hills near Gillette. Grand Teton National Park offers a ton of great climbing sites. Grand Tenton�s main sites range in difficulty from beginner to experienced expert. The Wind River Mountains and Lander Wyoming offer some of the best climbing in the world; this is the main reason that Lander, Wyoming hosts the annual International Climbers Festival. Wyoming offers the best ice climbing in the lower forty-eight states. Near Cody, Wyoming, hundreds off waterfalls freeze for four months out of the year. Of course, Cody also offers great, non-ice climbing all twelve months of the year as well. Gillette, Jackson, and Rock Springs have indoor climbing gyms. Check out these pictures of rock climbing in Wyoming. The Black Hills of South Dakota (which border Wyoming) offer more excellent climbing opportunities. Additionally, Colorado, Montana, Idaho, and Utah all offer some climbing opportunities. Hot Springs- Sublette, Carbon, Teton, Hot Springs, Converse, and Park counties have hot spring pools. The Jackson/Teton County, Thermopolis/Hot Springs County, Saratoga/Carbon County, and Cody/Park County areas have several popular hot springs. Thermopolis, a town located between Cody, Casper, Sheridan, and Jackson, WY, has the world�s largest mineral hot springs. Every year, thousands of Wyomingites enjoy the relaxing and medical benefits of these hot springs. |
