Figures representing the livestock and mining industries flank a woman bearing the "equal rights" banner on Wyoming's Great Seal.  Wyoming is known as the "Equality State" for the rights women have enjoyed there.  Wyoming was the first government in the world to grant women the right to vote.
Approved in 1917, Wyoming's official state flag depicts a bison, which is the official state mammal.  The red border symbolizes the indians who originally inhabited Wyoming.  White symbolizes purity and uprightness, and blue symbolizes fidelity, justice, and virility.

Wyoming became the 44th state in 1890.
