| 7up Freewheelers FC made it 2 home wins in a row by disposing of visitors Maynooth Town 7-0 in dreadful conditions in the league on Saturday. The match itself was in doubt, a half an hour before kick off as the referee performed a pitch inspection in torrential rain. Meanwhile Giller and Ego where frantically using a bucket to try and drain the mini lake which had formed in the goal mouth. The match did go ahead, but only one team got going from the kick off. In the driving rain, Freewheelers created a number of chances and it wasn't much of a suprise when Stephen Murphy latched on to a long ball from Ronan Scanlan and cooly slotted home to eventually open the scoring. Alan Lannigan's deflected header made it 2-0 not long after. As the second half began, the rain finally began to ease off, but unfortunately for the Kildare men, the scoring didn't. Ronan Scanlan converted a penalty as Sean Mc was flattened in the area, Lannigan added a fourth, and Sean himself got on the scoresheet to make it 5-0 and 'Game Over' with 25 minutes still to play. Giller looked to his bench for the final quarter, and no doubt allowed himself a smile, as substitutes Darren Dolan and Stephen McGibney both scored late on to bring the goal tally to a magnificent 7 for the home team. 7 Goals, 3 points. A job well done. |
