Wheeler's centre forward, Stephen McGibney bagged a brace in a 2-1 victory, which was enough for the away side to progress, in what was an eventful and hard fought contest.
McGibney's first, on the half hour mark, came after the lively Darren Hanbury intercepted a back pass; leaving McGibney to pounce on the loose ball and hammer home the opener.
The lead lasted for less than 2 minutes. Stand in Goalkeeper, Paul Egan was beaten at the near post by a cruel ricochet resulting from a well taken Griffith Corner. It was Wheelers' own Stephen murphy who was deemed to have had the final touch. It wasn't long into the second half when McGibney blasted home what would prove to be the eventual winner. It was his younger brother Dan, who created the opportunity with a surging raid down the right flank. The ball was whipped accross the face of the goal and met by older brother Stephen who had raced unmarked into the penalty area.
Freewheelers held on then, and with the help of fine defensive work from Ronan Scanlan and Graham Norman, the home side never really looked like bagging an equalizer.
It was a timely moment for the Clondalkin men to record their first away win of the season - Though here's hoping for a home draw in the quarters!
